I had a really good flow going on the third and last straight, so I fought myself in 2nd position just before the finish line! Two weeks later I raced the next 3 Nations Cup in Baarn, Holland. I never rode this track before, because it’s a pretty new track. Unfortunately there was a strong wind. Mistakes we’re quickly made. After my qualification runs I won the semi final and the main final. Pretty happy with the win and my second podium in two weeks. Video final elite men Baarn.
A few days after Baarn I drove to Bjerringbro, Denmark together with my team for 2 rounds of the Euro League series. This track had a really flat starting hill, which was very tough for my lower back! I struggled a lot on both race days. I made the semi final on Friday, but my lower back felt weak after the first race, so that was a disappointment. On Saturday I gave it another try and it actually didn’t feel to bad. I promised myself to ride a bite more aggressive and it worked out. Making the final while struggling with my lower back made me feel happy, because it took a lot of energy. My start was okay in the final, but my acceleration wasn’t fast enough so I got 5th place.
Between the races I’m training fulltime at Papendal. We’re also training at the European and World Championship track in Erp, Holland and Zolder Belgium. It’s really nice to train there with my team mates, so we can try different options/ lines. Next month is going to be really important! First we have the Dutch Champs in “Klazienaveen” at July 4-5, a week later European Champs in “Erp” at July 11 and the World Champs in “Zolder” at July 24-25. Unfortunately I didn’t qualify myself for the European Games in Baku, but I wish my team mates good luck there! My focus is on the World Championships. Looking forward to race there!
