to work with senior elite male and female Australian athletes identified as being podium or podium potential athletes to prepare them for national representation and continued podium success at international events.
The main aim of the program is to provide the best possible training environment, support services and competition opportunities to ensure that maximum participation spots are secured for the nation when qualifying for the Olympic Games and UCI BMX World Championships. Ultimately the number of spots is dependent on a nations ranking during the respective qualification periods, with points accumulated during events influencing this ranking.
Heading into Rio, the HPU is focused on supporting these athletes to achieve National selections and medal-winning performances in the 20” classes at qualifying events culminating in the Olympic Games in 2016.
National BMX Head Coach Wade Bootes echoed these key objectives, before emphasising the importance of identifying athletes that are capable of helping to achieve them.
“The core essence of the program is to support athletes identified as being most likely to consistently provide results for Australia,” Bootes said.
"We will always support those athletes that can deliver results for our nation, and our high performance program is focused on athletes capable of delivering those results.“Ultimately it is our aim through the program to ensure that maximum spots are secured when qualifying for both the UCI BMX World Championships and the Olympic Games.”
