The FISE World Series is not only open for Pro riders to enter. In Chengdu a girls class, Junior class and Amateur class were on the schedule. Because of the unsuspected rain on Saturday, the girls and amateur classes rode a straight final on Sunday. Winners were a Japanese lady in the girls class and Zhang Zhiyong in Amateur. The high air contest at 12:30hr brought 7 riders on the course. The 10 foot high quarterpipe is a beast itself and seeing people crank towards the ramp at full speed to launch themselves into the air is always a good thing.
Two runs is what 24 pro riders had to make it to the 12 men final at the 2nd round of the 2015 FISE World Series in Chengdu, China. Both runs counted towards a final score so it was task to lay it down not once, but twice with a minimum amount of mistakes. When riders like Australian Jake Wallwork (frontflip tailwhip on the box as well as a barspin frontie to no-hander), Alex Coleborn (UK) and Irek Rizaen (a.o. triple whips) did not make the cut, you know the level was super high in smoggy Chengdu. The little rain in the morning after Junior qualifying postponed the Am and Girl classes to Sunday. It dried up just in time for the Pro Class to do battle. The big crowd (Fise-style) got to experience some sick riding. With Catfish on the mic, accompanied by a Chinese MC, the 24 qualified riders gave it their all to make it to the 12-men cut. Jonathan Camacho almost killed himself on a double backie in his first run by hanging up with his front wheel on the platform of the box. In true Camacho fashion he got up and continued. But a crash like that hurt his scores enough to not make it through. A few too many crashes took out the consistency of Coleborn's runs as well
Friday afternoon in Chengdu, China the Open Qualifiers in the Pro BMX Park comp started the second stop of the 2015 FISE World Series. The non-pre qualified riders rode for a spot in the semi final. 20 spots were on the line and the riding was on a high level already. When every rider got the chance to ride the park all by themselves, it didn't take long before big moves were busted. Winning today wasn't a priority but it showed that you were on par with the best of them. Alex Coleborn (UK) grabbed his bag of tricks and pulled some out in random order.
