Day 3 is in the books. The weather forecast looks like rain for tomorrow as the younger riders start their racing. The track crew started to cover the final straight when I left but hopefully the weatherman is wrong. Pietermaritzberg has not seen rain in quite a while so it might be a good thing to wash all the dust out of the air as well as the ash from all the grass fires. Each day more and more elite riders appear around the track. Its a pity that riders like
Mike Day and defending champ
Donnie Robinson are injured but
Van Der Biezen, Strombergs and
Willoughby are no slackers.
The South African practice was a yard sale. I saw three riders stabilized by the paramedics and its a shitty feeling pushing one of your friends bikes back to the pits without him. Injuries do happen though and I am sure although their Worlds is over, they will be in the stands or resting at home with Fatbmx on the laptop.
Unit Clothing seems to be blowing up and there are stickers and clothing everywhere. Even more awesome is seeing the yellow and black of the "Stay Strong" being repped by everyone but especially the British. The official opening ceremony, complete with Zulu singers and dancers followed by some speeches is out the way now and its

time to race. Thanks to everyone reading my short reports from Worlds. It's my first time covering the event and what I love is that down one straight there are several people who have no way of understanding each other but are all linked through BMX.
