pushing much out of my comfort zone and thus didn’t make the cut of 64 riders to race that evening. Crazy to think that 130 pro riders rock up at the first round of the world cup series and 64 transfer to race and the rest get to watch on the stand. Being on the side lines watching felt different and was frustrating at first but I just got over it and took all I could learn from that experience.
The following weekend was the first two rounds of the European championships in France. I was pretty excited about that race and was looking forward to give it another shot. Round one we had a lot of rain that day but racing was really good, I felt good on the day and was getting the hang of things again and it was slowly coming back to me again. Through my motos and 1/8 I got a mixture of 1st and 2nds to help me proceed to the quarter finals. In the quarter finals I touched bars in the first turn and rode hard to get back to 5th position but only the top 4 of each heat go through after the motos so that’s where Round 1 ended for me. I was extremely happy with the progress I had from the previous weekend not even getting into the motos.
Day two was another tough day but I felt even better on the track than I did the first day and made it to the semi with a mixture of 1st, 2nds and 3rds so that was also a sign of progress and I really felt as I should have been in the main event .
I know it takes time to get back into the swing of things and I am ready mentally for the next couple of races coming up here in Europe . I know you have to climb the small steps before you get onto the last three BIG ones.
Brief outline of how the racing works for all of you at home that want to come watch World Champs in PMB.
UCI BMX SX & Olympics 1.
100+ Riders need to qualify by riding two time trials, top 64 riders go through 2. There are 8 riders per a moto on the track at once. 3. Riders then have 3 heats with the same 8 riders and the top four riders with points over those three heats transfer to the next motos which is ¼, then semi and the final. 4. From here on it is sudden death with top 32 going to ¼ final, then the top 4 from each quarter final go into semi final and the final 8 go to the final.
European BMX Champs & World Champs 1.
No time trial at this event so days are longer with racing as all riders get to race motos. 2. There are 8 riders per a moto on the track at once. 3. Riders then have 3 heats with the same 8 riders and the top four riders with points over those three heats transfer to the next motos which is depending on the amount at the race day anything from 1/32, 1/16, quarter final, semi and then the final. 4. Once you out the motos and into the 1/32, from here on it is sudden death with top 4 moving on until the final which has 8.
Hope this gives a bit of in sight as to how our race days work.
Thanking all my sponsors and fans again for their support over the past few months.
