Looking for a break for the long lines at the mall and last minute holiday shopping? This Saturday at “Da Compound” BMX park in Perris, CA there will be an 80’s themed freestyle jam hosting some serious fun and a flash back to the way BMX freestyle used to be. This is an event that has really been made possible because of the efforts by
Randy Lawrence who competed in some of the first A.F.A. events in the 80’s, was
Jeremy McGrath’s mechanic during his reign as the “King of Supercross” and is now a physical trainer to the top riders in Motocross and Supercross.
“I grew up in a family that raced motocross, but one day I picked up a BMX Action magazine and RL Osborn was on the cover with some white Tuff wheels and I thought, man that looks cool! Growing up with the OG’s of freestyle everyone rode flatland, then it was flatland and ramps and now days there is flat, ramp, street, dirt, vert and all different cliques of the sport. It seems like today’s BMX is missing some of the fun we had back in the day and I wanted to bring that back.”
“It is incredible what the guys are doing these days, and the concept of this event is to set up a course like we had in the 80’s with jam circles, kick turn ramps and 8 foot quarters, and bring together some of the best riders from the 80’s, 90’s and today in a way that’s not just about how many tail whips or bar spins you can do in 90 seconds, but just a way to bring together the lifestyle of BMX and have fun”, Randy Lawrence. Da Compound also has three parks and dirt jumps for everyone to enjoy.
There will also be some fun contests flashing back to the roots of BMX like; Longest hang five, Most pinky squeaks, Highest air on the 8 foot quarter pipe, The most whiplashes (beat Kevin Jones’ record at 52) and more!
You can expect to see some great riders from the past like
Eddie Fiola, Brian Blyther, Jesse Puente, Mike Dominguez as well as the top guys from today like
Luke Parslow, Cory Nastazio, TJ Ellis and many more.

Athlete Recovery Fund (a 501(c)3 Charity) will also be raffling off some memorabilia to benefit injured riders in BMX. The big ticket item will be an OG Mongoose that has been kept in premium condition by
Tim “Fuzzy” Hall. If you have a true BMX fan on your Christmas shopping list this will be the place to pick up some one of a kind items! Da Compound 80’s Freestyle Jam starts at 10:00 AM Sat. Dec. 19th 18700 Lake Perris Dr., Lake Perris, CA 951/ 943-5744 (right next door to Starwest Motocross Track)
