Originating from the Santa Clarita Skate Park, located in Santa Clarita, California, the series features professional skateboarders Lasek and Glifberg and professional BMX riders Dhers and Young, as they pair up with four talented amateurs to help sharpen their technical skills, perform new tricks and try to become the next generation's action sports superstars. The amateur athletes include:
12-year-old Jamie Cooper-Ellis, a BMX athlete from Putney, Vermont, who recently competed in Wicked Jam (Rye Air Field) and placed first in the 12 and under category.
11-year-old Tucker Smith, a BMX athlete from Laguna Hills, California, who competed in the Woodward West AM Fest, May 2009 and placed first in the 10 and under category.
"Next X" is produced by Kemp Curley, Bruno Musso and Michael Bloom of Transition Productions (ESPN X Games/Winter X Games, "First Descent," and "Ultimate Parkour Challenge"). The director of photography is Christian Hoagland.
ESPN and Disney XD further developed the “Next X” platform this year by launching a winter and an international version of the series. “Winter Next X” and “Next X Europe” both premiered in early 2010 and each received ratings success.
