August 6, 2006   Los Angeles - Kevin Robinson soared to his second gold medal of X Games 12 with a victory in the first-ever BMX Freestyle Big Air competition at The Home Depot Center. Chad Kagy finished second to pick up his third medal of X Games 12 (gold - BMX Freestyle Vert, silver - BMX Freestyle Vert Best Trick). Allan Cooke finished third to take the bronze medal. Robinson, who won gold in the BMX Freestyle Vert Best Trick on Friday with the first double flair ever landed in X Games competition, took the Big Air gold with a backflip tuck no-hander to no-handed flair. "I'm psyched," said Robinson after his medal-winning adventures on the mega-ramp. "That's the biggest no-handed flair I've ever done in my life. I'm just glad I landed rubber-side down." 

We want to inform everyone that we will organize the 5th edition of our bmx contest here in Italy. The Contest will be on 02-03 September in Riccione (RN) Italy. Last year there were more of 60 riders (you can read a report on cream mag issue #15). Riccione is a very nice city, perfect to do a week-end here in Italy. The Park is very well situated, just 100mt. from the beach (famous Adriatic coast), and 500mt from the town centre. There are also several hotels around the park ( and near the beach too ). On Saturday there will be the qualification for AM and PRO. Sunday will have the last events with 2 FINALS (AM. - PRO)

LOS ANGELES - August 2006 - Youth was served Saturday when New Jersey's Scotty Cranmer, the youngest BMX rider at X Games 12, grabbed the gold medal in BMX Freestyle Park. In doing so, the 19-year-old Cranmer (aka: The Bulldozer) improved upon his silver medal performance at last year's Summer X event and threw down the gauntlet for next year. Morgan Wade won the silver medal while Daniel Dhers rode off with the bronze. "This event is so awesome," said Cranmer following his victory. "The riding levels are out of this world. This course couldn't have been better. It was a good day."  Cranmer's winning run was a fluid masterpiece and included a tailwhip drop in, a double whip over the big hip, a 360 double whip over the step-up ramp and a front flip turn down over the step up.

Wade took silver with two pocket airs, a hip to the wall to a massive hip landing. Like Cranmer, the Tyler, TX native was complimentary of the world-class park course.

Los Angeles - August 2006 - A double flair may sound simple, but X Games 12 Men's BMX Freestyle Vert Best Trick gold medal-winner Kevin Robinson can assure everybody that its not. Robinson's double flair (a back flip into a cork screw) earned him the X Games gold medal that has eluded him until tonight, when he beat out silver medalist Chad Kagy and bronze medalist Simon Tabron. Fittingly the three-time BMX Freestyle Vert bronze medalist earned gold by landing a trick he's been chasing for years. "This was three years in the making - it's the end of a three-year-long day," said Robinson. "I took off and it felt light the whole way through until I hit bottom." Kagy, who earlier in the evening won gold in the BMX Freestyle Vert, tallied a second X Games 12 medal by landing a double tail whip flat spin. Tabron grabbed his second X Games 12 bronze medal with an Alley Oop No-Hand to Turn Down 540. Earlier in the evening Tabron won bronze in the BMX Freestyle Vert. "I'm happy to get third in the middle of all this mayhem," said Tabron. "The best thing is that everyone came up healthy. History was made tonight, and there were no casualties." 

LOS ANGELES - August 2006 - For the first time in nine years, the BMX Freestyle Vert medal podium is owned by someone not named Mirra or Bestwick. Chad Kagy edged fellow BMX legends Jamie Bestwick and Simon Tabron to take his first gold in BMX Freestyle Vert. The State College, Pa. BMX superstar electrified the STAPLES Center crowd with a run that topped stiff competition and was punctuated by a flat-spin bar spin flair, the first time the signature trick had been landed in competition. "All the pieces came together," said Kagy. "It was the right time and the right place. It definitely puts a huge smile on my face. I rode to the very best of my ability." Kagy's run also included a flat-spin tail whip and a superman seat grab flair. Fans will see more of the 27-year-old at X Games 12, as he will compete later this evening in BMX Freestyle Vert Best Trick and will also compete in BMX Big Air, new to X Games 12. 

X GAMES, LOS ANGELES — Cory Bohan rode to an unprecedented third-straight gold in BMX freestyle dirt at X Games 12 on Thursday evening at the STAPLES Center. The Australian native came into this year's competition as the only rider to win back-to-back BMX freestyle dirt gold medals. Following a winning run that included a no-handed, one-footer to tail whip, a one-footed table 360 and a bar-spin tail whip, he let the crowd know that he has no intention of letting up. "The three-peat is fantastic, and what to do now is keep winning," says Bohan. "The no-hand one-foot, to be able to put it into a run and hold it throughout feels unbelievable." 

Of all the cities in Europe, to me, Cologne is the one that I associate most with Bmx. I've been to Cologne for two Worlds, a couple of Bmx Masters and some flatland contests. Always in the Jugendpark, always lots of good bmx, good fun, cool people, sun and parties. 2006 was another good year for bmx in Cologne. The flatland tent was set up the same way it was last year and although some riders thought the floor moved a bit up and down and was a little dusty, overall feeling was one of familiarity. The white tent at the same spot, all the way to the back of the contest area, benches for the spectators and riders from all over.

A lot of riders showed up in all classes. Amateur classes were filled better than last year, with lots of riders from both the Czech Republic

Birmingham, August, 2006  NASS 2006: Britain’s biggest freesports event of the year took place last weekend at the Birmingham NEC, with shows and contests in BMX, Skateboard, Inline and Freestyle Motocross. The Braun cruZer Spine returned to NASS for the second year running in order to host the second round of the Braun cruZer Tour, fresh from the first round held at the Suzuki BMX Masters one week earlier.  The 12 competitors impressed everyone during Saturday’s qualifying, laying down huge runs of massive and technically difficult tricks. 

The tenth anniversary of the KoNY was a good time and lots of good riding went down . Steve McCann takes home the bragging rights as the new King of New York! Many thanks to Danny Parks and the old school Mullaly crew and NYC parks department for hooking up this action packed competition. The pro class was a blast with the likes of Steve McCann who was totally killing the Mullaly park. Adrian Henderson from Colorado battled his way into second place and Jorge the "EAGLE" Jovel local Bronx native took third.

The LG vert riding in Birmingham was rad but like the old days it showed some casualties. Ricky Roich mysteriously dislocated his shoulder after he landed a perfect 540 at height in the beginning of his first run. Doubting if he should drop in again for a second run, he said fuck it! thinking of  the fact that he needed some of the (top 10) money. His 2nd run only lasted a few airs and then Ricky was pulling his own arm again trying to get it back into socket. Just recovered from a similar injury myself, I had to watch in another direction when he was fixing his shoulder. Mark Theaker was riding with a broken wrist but had a wrist guard to support it. He finished 14th and got no check for his efforts.

The Birmingham NEC came to an uncomfortable silence when John Parker (USA) knocked himself silly at the end of his first run and had to be taken off to hospital on a stretcher.
