Declan Brooks (GBR) had fast and original lines around the park and got 11th, just behind Mike Varga (CAN) who arrived in Croatia earlier this week and took care of the course preview. It was Cam Peake's (GBR) first semi final and two solid runs from Cam got him into his very first UCI BMX Freestyle Park final. Cam is stoked on this already but we'll see how he ends up once the final starts on Saturday evening.
The mosquitos
While mosquitos were dancing around the evening lights Kenneth Tencio dropped in from the top of the wall into the smaller quarter with a flair. It got the party started and the Costa Rican backed it up with a 720, flairwhip, backflip double-whip and frontflip on the course that has plenty of ramps to play on. The Eastern Bikes rider got 8th right behind Jake Leiva who also dropped in from the top of the wall with a 270. After having a rough time in the open qualifier, Daniel Sandoval (USA) rested up and got down to business with more whips, barspins, flips, decades and combinations of these tricks to finish on a well deserved 6th place. Josh Perry (USA) rode posessed and was determined to make things work on the other side of the world. Josh will be following the rest of the UCI BMX Park World Cup and after missing stop one, he can sure use the points to move up on the 2016 ranking. Jack Clark is so good on the bike that he is able to do any trick at any given moment on any available ramp. When no one is on the course but him, he can pick the ramps and make up tricks while they get in front of him. Tons of tricks gave Jack 4th place and a spot in the last group in the finals.
Loving it
All the traveling that Nick Bruce (USA) has been doing lately hasn't caught up with him yet. Nick is simply loving the travel and riding his bike is his profession. And he's good at that! Nick uses the entire course, goes high and brings the new tricks. We're expecting big things from Nick tomorrow too. Time after time Daniel Dhers gets the job done. Being pre-qualified meant he could skip the Open Qualifier in Croatia but during the semi final there's no holding back for anyone. The level is at its best and you need to deliver to make it to the final 12. Dhers made it work with no-handed flips and 360 double whips the only way he does them.
Too many tricks
Back at stop one in Montpellier, France, it looked like Logan Martin held back in the semi final to finish 6th. With the rain coming in on the final day, the semi-final results were used for the overal results at UCI BMX Freestyle Park World Cup 1. Although the weather looks great for Saturday's final, Logan didn't want to make the same mistake and gave everything he's got and had the crowd on their feet in Osijek with triple tailwhips, a dec8 to barspin over the volcano, a huge alley oop on the far corner of the course and an underflip. Almost too many tricks to mention and first place in the semi.
Don't miss the final
The finals will take place on Saturday 23 July. The grandstands host 4500 people and are expected to be full. The best riders in the world are in town and Osijek wants to see who will get home with the winner's check of €8000,=
