see things differently and the level of creativity he brings to the sport are unrivalled. In his most ambitious project to date, Kriss was given the freedom to create his ultimate playground. The vision for ‘Kaleidoscope’ wasn’t just to produce a skate park for Kriss to move around but for the skate park to move around him. The Red Bull Media House and Ridley Scott Associates produced film used a combination of moving set pieces and stunning optical techniques which allowed Kriss to land a number of world firsts.
In the new documentary about the movie, Kriss talks about the development of his biggest project and introduces us to the crew behind the scenes, including director Ben Scott of Ridley Scott Associates. We learn how they planned the unique setting that enabled Kriss to showcase his awe-inspiring manoeuvres and how Bens' and Kriss’ ideas were turned in to reality with the help of 3D computer applications and a large team of skilled craftsmen. It also shows the obstacles Kriss had to overcome when he first rode the innovative objects, and how he became acquainted with them.
The documentary provides an insight to the 18 months of planning and building, and the two weeks of filming that were necessary to produce ‘Kaleidoscope’. In addition to the unprecedented set-up, it was also the first time Kriss worked with a professional production crew of this size: “It was kind of intimidating to ride in front of the same camera that filmed ‘Skyfall’ or the crane operator who worked for the movie ‘Gravity’”, Kriss stated.
The Making Of 'Kaleidoscope' follows Kriss’ path from the BMX novice he was 10 years ago to the extraordinary rider he has become today, sharing exclusive images of Kriss as a child and of his training sessions at Unit 23 skate park in his hometown Glasgow. Friends and riders talk about Kriss, his unique personality and riding style and his exceptional way of approaching obstacles. Fellow Scot trial bike star Danny MacAskill visits Kriss on set to lend him his support. Despite all the hustle and bustle surrounding him, Kriss realized though: “At the end of the day it comes down to me and my bike – nothing else!"
