Inagural Red Bull Barrel Pump Race Crowns Champ. Lee Lewis beats out pro riders in ultimate endurance and speed test

Professional and amateur athletes from all bike disciplines battled each other at full speed this afternoon during the inaugural Red Bull Barrel Pump. A crowd of approximately 500 people watched as participants raced on a double clover leaf dirt course featuring whoops, berms, jumps and more which tested each racer’s speed and endurance abilities. Over 100 athletes vied during timed trials to make the cut to a coveted slot in the 64-person race bracket.

Lee Lewis of Houston showed the field of skilled riders that he could compete against the pros taking first in both timed trials and in head to head racing. Hunter Pelham, with a home field advantage came in a close second. New Zealand’s Nick Fox took third place and Fernie Jacquez took fourth place.

“Red Bull Barrel Pump is a super awesome event for BMX racers. We definitely have an advantage with no freestyle and a lot of pumping and rhythm” said winner Lee Lewis. “There was a great turn out today at Hilltop Ranch.”

The competition attracted top grade racers Coco Zurita, Mike “Hucker” Clark, TJ Ellis, Lahsaan Kobza, Brandon Dosch, Cory Nastazio although Pelham was the only professional to reach the podium.
