Monster Energy’s Scotty Cranmer has added another medal to his collection with a solid bronze medal finish today in BMX Park at X Games Austin 2015. It’s the ninth career medal for the New Jersey native. “It was an amazing end to an amazing week, said Cranmer. "I got my ninth medal! I have three bronze, three silver and three gold medals now and I am so amped up. It was a crazy event and so much insane riding went down. There was nothing but perfection from everyone and to be one of the guys on the podium yet again was freaking awesome.”
BMX Park sees the best riders in the world hitting a custom concrete course made especially for this weekend, filled with hips, banks, big gaps, and even a Monster Energy wall. Each rider must progress through a qualifying Round 1 before facing off in the finals for a shot at the podium.
Cranmer came out hot in round one, nailing two explosive runs. Highlights include a massive flair, barspin transfer, cork 720 over the hip, tail whip out of the hip, and a big flair whip. He scored an
89.00, giving him the top qualifying spot coming out of Round 1.
In the finals each of the seven riders got three runs. In all three runs Cranmer had good landings, flow, solid speed, and improvisation along with banger tricks, but it was his first run that gave him the bronze. He pulled a huge flair barspin out the quarter, a quick 720, a flair whip on the Monster Energy bank, and a clean fufunu on the sign. Despite sketching out and slamming on his last hit, he still chalked up an 89.66, enough for bronze.
Cranmer has been a mainstay on the X Games podium. He’s a three-time X Games gold medalist (2006, 2009, 2012), and including today’s solid finish he now has nine medals in 12 appearances, all in BMX Park.
