He pulled a flip-whip on the step up as his last trick and was stoked. Worth a note was that Dutch scooter champion Daan Melis entered the comp on Daniel Wedemeijer's bike. Daan had many lines down at the park and flipped the box for the first time on Saturday. He stepped it up in the finals by flipping the big step up perfectly. He got 6th. It's time to make the change Daan.

With riders flying in from the USA, Austria, Italy, England, Denmark, Russia and riders making the trip from Germany, Belgium and all over Holland, it was time to get it on. 38 riders ended up trying to qualify for the 16-man final. Making that cut was tough. Some good riders missed out simply by missing a trick or two that they couldn't stick. The Brits were looking good and 8 of them made it to the finals. Joe Ferguson, Komstantin Andreev and Sem Kok just missed the cut. 040BMXPARK team riders Tom van den Bogaard, Kenneth Tancre, Rene van IIzendoorn and Paul Thoelen were also in. Dhers, Channon, Crazy Mike and Dominik Freigang completed the top 16.
Needless to say, the level of riding in qualifying was nuts. The crowd was treated by sick lines, high airs and tech moves from the riders. During the finals everyone stepped it up even more. Instead of one run, each rider had two plus two attempts for a last trick. That system worked well. With Gerco on the Mic, the Red Bull DJ's on the tunes it was time to get things started. Troy Hayward crashed a 720 barspin over the big box and landed on his nuts. It was hard to get things back together after that for the 13 year old ripper. Seeing Crazy Mike Hendrick from Belgium ride is very entertaining. You never know where he's going or what he's going to do. It's all full speed. His footjam on the vert wall was absolutely nuts.
Tom Isted pulled some double flips which is always a crowd favourite as long as they are pulled. Karl Southern did a 360 with 5 barspins over the box. Yes, five barspins and ended up on 7th place. Isaac Lesser had a nasty slam on Friday during practice and sat out all Saturday hoping he would be able to shred on Sunday. With a bit of overseas taping advice to get his shoulder ready, it was time to give it a shot. The adrenaline took care of the pain and Isaac was all over the place going higher than most and doing transfers that others had not looked at. 6th place money for the Brit.
5th place was for Jack Clark who could ride this park for 10 minutes (straight) and not do the same trick once. Jack simply likes to ride and doesn't plan ahead too far as he makes things up along the way during his run. It's awesome he brings so many tricks. His last trick didn't count for the comp but he pulled a 540 triple barspin for the first time ever on the quarter after a few too many attempts to make it score for his run. Red Bull rider Paul Thoelen from Germany qualified in second and rode well in the finals pulling an alley oop flip whip on the quarter and did many big jumps on the high step up for fourth place just missing out getting on top of that Red Bull podium. Third went to total shredder James Jones from the UK. The rather unknown Brit got to work at the 040PARK and never slowed down. James was shredding in practice, qualification and stepped it up even more for the finals. A refreshing trick machine that rides smooth that you will be hearing more from in 2015.
If someone knows how to prepare for a run, it's Daniel Dhers. He builds up his runs towards strong climaxes whenever he needs to. His standard stuff (his standards) is amazing but it required more to beat local Tom van den Bogaard at the Braaab comp. Daniel had to dig deep into his box of tricks and pulled out the 720 cancan and many other cancan variations that he had not done for a couple of years. Noone had seen Daniel do a 'cashroll' in competition since 2011 but he pulled one over the box for his last trick.
Then it was up to Tom van den Bogaard to top that. Tom is becoming a favourite among riders because of his style, the height that he travels at, the smooth airs both ways and the tricks he adds to that. His modest behavior and his smile are always there with the 18 years old rider from Ale Blie (Aarle-Rixtel). It makes him a rider to watch, and to hang out with. Tom put the power on and blasted on every ramp. The crowd got behind him and that helped him even more to go bigger than he has ever gone before. No-handed frontie on the step-up. 360 one-footed X-ups. He crashed a 360 triple downside whip but got up to prove who was boss in Eindhoven. When the videos show up, you'll get the idea. His double downside whip transfer from quarter to quarter was pulled first try and the score of 91 points was his.
The prize ceremony wrapped up the awesome weekend which had a great BMX vibe. People made new friends, riders pulled new tricks, the experience of riding a bigger competition was in the pocket. Let's bring on Braaab 2016.
