Viki Gomez trades flatland for sky. "Have a nice flight"

Jorge “Viki” Gomez may have to change his job description. Before pilots took to the skies for Qualifying at the Red Bull Air Race season opener on Friday, the flatland BMX star went airborne with Challenger Cup pilot Cristian Bolton to get a taste of the world’s fastest motorsport series. During race week Training sessions, Gomez dazzled passersby by displaying his jaw-dropping BMX skills on the Abu Dhabi Corniche, but after his flight, all he could talk about was the high-speed, low-altitude experience of flying through the 25-meter-high Air

Gates.

“I never was afraid, and I enjoyed every single move – I think I could be a pilot!” laughed Gomez, a Madrileño who has claimed the world championship in his own sport. “I was talking to one of the pilots competing in the World Championship here, Juan Velarde, and in the end we have the same mindset. He’s all about how smooth you move, and for us in flatland it’s the same. We want to be smooth with the bike and have a flow.”

Gomez added, “I’ve always watched the races, but now that I know Cristian and Juan, and now that I know the feeling from the inside, I’m more interested in the sport than ever.”
