whole event. There was delicious food that kept me going back for more such as the barbecue ribs that I could not get enough of. I got to witness for the first time the AM Jam which was pro wrestling that needless to say had me at the edge of my feet. Walking around by the stages, the concerts were definitely a great experience that had me jamming to some of my favorite bands like Taking Back Sunday and The Used which gave great performances. DJ’s like Mike Attack definitely had me having an amazing time as well.
The time finally came to watch the expected portion of the event: The Ricardo Laguna Dirt Challenge. I walk by and see myself feeling like an ant compared to the size of the ramps that were built. Thinking to myself which machine could have built this gigantic masterpiece, I realized that the Ricardo Laguna crew along with the Clark County Heavy Machinery built the ramps with their own working hands. Not only did that show me the passion that these riders have for this sport but the dedication they have for doing what they love. Seeing the riders continuously jump high extremes in the air and give their all on that dirt course gave us all in the crowd a great show with the best local talent I’ve ever seen. Even on a day where mother nature was not on our side and winds were high, nothing stopped these riders from proving themselves with everything they had.
Having riders from all the way from France, one of the riders that stood out the most was Ben Voyles. With his solid flip no handers and flip whips, he was the guy that I was set on winning. Seeing Vince Byron I was surprised to see the runs that he was putting together making him look like a dirt jumper. Last years winner Colten Satterfield was not off the picture to win the contest as he was doing backflip 360 no hander casually. Pat, Big daddy, Laughlin was spinning his 360’s in both directions keeping the crowd in awe as he was in full character mode but a crash during
practice seemed to keep him riding conservatively during the competition. A new up-and-comer Trevor Fitz kept me waiting for his tail whip bar spin as he delivered and had me cheering for him. Ty Callais never disappoints as he always sends big tricks. Local hometown hero Mark Rubio rode the corse with great style making the top 10. Although I was impressed by the riders, I was even more im
pressed to see an 11-year-old riding along with a father competing to even a girl riding the dirt course. Right after the dirt contest the “Pole Position High Air” kicked off where they made a 9 foot lip to a 12 foot landing where Ruben Barslow ended up taking the win at 25 feet.
Definitely having a one of a kind experience that kept me wanting more adrenaline and great vibes, Extreme Thing is a must-go-to event for all ages. Trying something new like this was definitely a great decision and I invite everyone to attend this event. Trust me, you won’t regret it.
