The traditional contest was held at Savela freestyle park in Helsinki, Finland on Saturday August 24th. This contest has roots from an early 2000. It's been somewhat the main event of a year in freestyle BMX in Finland. The event has gone through with a lot of different names, but the basics have been the same. There has always been foreign riders visiting even though it's called Finnish Championship. We're not that strict, it's only BMX, right?

This year's event was also a Road To Simple Session 14. So three of the best Finnish riders got an invitation to ride at Simple Session 14 next winter. 15 and under group had riders from a beginner with a first contest to a better rider with a flow sponsors already

under the belt. This group even had one girl rider who did some cool stuff in style. It was cool to see that some of the younger dudes shredded so well. Good to see that not all the kids are into scooters.

The level of riding in a main group was raised once again since last year. There were some new obstacles on the course, so a lot of new opportunities were available. There were more guys killing it with good tricks and lines. Not just the ones we've been used to see taking the top positions. I guess the international visitors and the invitations for SS14 made everyone ride better. Everyone was still having fun out there on and off their bikes.

Last but not least was a best trick contest. Some good tricks went down like Andres Lainevool's 540 tailwhip on the quarter, but a young gun Jopi Toijonen took a win with a Bri-flip on the quarter.

Sunny and warm weather made the day perfect for the summer season ender. It's not far in the future when it's cold and dark again. Let's hope we could get some things going on before that.
