Young attacked the course with full speed and unique lines, earning him his first X Games gold medal after 13 appearances. BMX Freestyle Park veteran Ryan Nyquist who appeared to have an advantage heading into the finals after posting the highest heat score, was unable to overtake Young in the end. “No one deserves it more than Gary Young,” said Nyquist who came out firing in the finals, landing a 720 onto the deck on a fast and technical run.
Scotty Cranmer walked away with the bronze medal.
