The first day of the Red Bull Metro Pipe awarded the wild cards at stake to teams coming from Toledo, León, Barcelona and Málaga. After a very intense day of BMX action, three of the 70 teams that took part in Saturday’s amateur contest achieved their dream of competing in Sunday’s final. Since early morning 140 participants were familiarizing with the demanding track, where they later competed in order to qualify for Sunday’s final.
The 70 amateur pairs performed their best tricks, most of which were considered by the judges as good as any seen in a professional contest: A 540 bar spin, a flair 180º and a

double tailwhip were the most impressive tricks for judges and audience alike, but in this competition the pairs’ synchronization was paramount as

well and the winners’ performance and an astonishing 360 in the pipe’s central kicker secured them the victory.
The pair admitted being very impressed by the quality of the ramps and the overall design of the track.
“We’re very excited to have the chance to compete with the riders we’ve always seen in videos. It’s amazing we won, it's a dream come true”, they added.
A

mong the winners was
Lluis Lacondeguy, brother of international MTB freestyle superstar
Andreu Lacondeguy.
Once this open session finished, the 8 professional pairs of riders that will compete in Sunday’s procompetition started training behind closed doors. The contest will begin at 10am.
