Repeating the dirt win at Compound was Larry Edgar, while Kevin Peraza took the top spot in the park contest. First-time host park Circus saw Ben Eylander ride away with the trophy and the trip to the Finals, held in conjunction with the Dew Tour this August.

Kicking off the BMX dirt competitions for the year, Da Compound saw riders coming all the way from overseas to fight for a spot in the Gatorade Free Flow Tour Finals. Seventeen-year-old Larry Edgar, from Corona, Calif. was named first place finisher for his three tuck, tuck to toboggan and x-up to turn down. 2010 Finalist Peraza took second, and rounding out the podium was Australian Luke Parker. “I had a blast,” said Edgar, making his way to the Finals for the second consecutive year in BMX dirt.

Sixteen-year-old Peraza was named podium winner in park, showcasing consistent riding with tricks such as a superman seat grab, decade airs and 360 inverts. Runner up was eighteen-year-old Victor Salazar from Fountain Valley, Calif., and third place finisher was Australian Jack Fahey.

Peraza will head to Portland to compete in the Finals for both BMX park and BMX dirt, as the discipline takes top three riders from each contest to the Finals. This will be the amateurs second year competing in the Finals, winning Mission Valley’s park contest and taking third in Da Compound’s dirt contest in 2010.

“The contest was sick. Good riders, good vibes, good times,” said Tucson, Ariz.’s Peraza.

In the Midwest, Circus Park saw twenty-year-old Eylander earn first place with flawless ticks such as a front Flip, barrel roll, 360 downside whip, lots of 360 variations, flair turn-down and double whip. Runner up Don Rich of Glendale Heights, Ill. was a close second, with nineteen-year-old Tyler Henderson taking third place.

“This is the first big contest I have entered,” said Eylander. “I’m surprised I won, I but now I can’t wait for the Finals in Portland.”

With the win, Edgar, Peraza and Eylander earn an automatic bid into the Gatorade Free Flow Tour Finals that will take place in conjunction with the Dew Tour’s Portland Invitational on August 11-14. Overall winners earn a prequalified spot in the 2011 Dew Tour Championship, held in Las Vegas this October.
