Besides; the SBS/Redline booth is up front, in our usual spot – and is one of the first booths people come to when entering. We’d like to keep that space as long as we can, and be the first people to reach the dealers when they arrive – when they are fresh and awake.”
-What new products are you bringing to Las Vegas that people need to check out? “Freestyle-wise, our new RL series of bikes have some major upgrades and have been getting rave reviews from riders and the BMX media. Out of all 90-some bikes we have, Redline made the most changes to its freestyle line, including the low-priced T&T bikes. All of the RL series frames and forks are now modeled after the Device and RL-7 frames, with smaller, lighter, sleeker tubes and dropouts, laser-cut stay-braces, sleeker forks. Also, we have removed all DC Amplifiers. Similar graphics, all new cool colors. We’ve got lower end models now spec’d with 3 piece cranks, mid BB’s and 12tooth cogs. I think this year, more than ever before, Redline’s are super competitive with the FIT’s … as requested by our dealers. That was our goal. And with our buying-power, we should come out more competitive on the pricing, too.”
-Any special activities going on at the booth during the show? “2009 marks Redline’s 35th Annniversary, so we’ll be celebrating throughout the year with a then-and-now ad campaign – taking classic Redline moments and recreating them with our modern day riders. The first one is HuckerStu Thomsen Porsche jump, from 1982. With Oz’s permission, we recreated the 3-car leap – but did it with Toyota Tacoma trucks, instead. Couldn’t find anybody who owns Porsche’s these days. The trucks are red, white and black – just like the 930 Turbo’s that Stu jumped. And it was a flat bottom landing, just like Stu did. So, we will have posters of the truck-jump and Hucker will be autographing them on the first two days of the show.” recreating the infamous
-How many people are going to help out in your booth during the show? “SBS bring in their staff of 20 sales reps, and then we have about guys from purchasing and our art dept walking around the show, stopping off at vendors.”
-Are you actually taking orders at the show or is it more to show products to the dealers and get contacts? “For SBS, it’s all about taking orders. We always have some special show-only offers on hand, that dealers look forward to taking advantage of. For the serious companies, INTERbike is about business; not partying. We’re there to create sales; period.”
-Are any of your riders coming to Interbike? “Fuzzy and Mike ‘Hucker’ Clark will be there, as well as Tyrone Williams – who is attending as a bike shop owner for the first time. And since we’re the exclusive U.S. distributor for Macneil, Jay Miron and his Canadian posse will be in our booth, hangin’ out and pumping up their new stuff..”
-Would you think a contest at Interbike would be a good idea since loads of people (industry/riders/media) are there already? “It’d be great. Holding a BMX race there would be cool, too. With so many roadies and mountain bikers in attendance, anything that helps put BMX in the limelight would be beneficial.”
-What party are you looking forward to? “The NORA Cup was awesome last year; so a lot more of us at Redline are planning on attending.”
-What would make the 2008 edition of Interbike a success for you? “No MacNeil frames will get stolen.”
