BMX European Cup 2022 | Ravels, Belgium by Quillan Isidore
With 92 pages we were allowed to call this a double issue. Most 'zines at that time did not have more than 48 pages and FAT was establishing a name for itself in the underground BMX media world. Mat Hoffman made the cover and rightfully so. He had just performed a trick in Bercy that noone had seen before. A backflip on a quarterpipe! And not a low one either. Way out of the top of the Coca Cola quarter pipes. Sick! We're getting more American stuff in the 'zine so from now on the FAT issues should become more interesting for our American visitors.
Ralf Maier and Frank Schnuetgen did a Cali trip in the winter of '89/'90 and showed what it was like down there (page 28 - p33).
Vic Murphy wrote a story about the 2-HIp comp at Trend. Mark and Chris Noble sent some Cali stuff from their trip and we also had an interview with 2 Hip announcer Kevin Martin.
The other interviews in the double issue are with Klaus Dyba, Thomas Fritscher and Patrick van Wolferen. We sat on our asses too long and had collected lots of material for this one.
Divorze posse live, Lageja '90 contest report, a Life's a Beach, Ack 'zine and SKY HI sticker, contest info, 'zine reviews, Stokebros, Mookhoek mini, Rad-Lame list, Tropica DM, Skatehouse visit, Zoetermeer spot, BMX crosswords, ......

Brazil's BMX scene is constantly thriving and there's no shortage of fresh young talent working their way up the ranks. Matheus Morais (menó) is only 15 years old and has been turning heads in the short three years that he's been riding. Get familiar - we're sure you'll be seeing more from this guy in the future.
You're in for some non-stop showstoppers at the BMX Triple Challenge Best Trick event. The contest format? Do the best trick! Hit play and watch the riders go nuts on a clear day in Denver.
Name: Jimmy Mac Mcneal
Hometown: Camden, NJ, USA.
Occupation: CEO/founder Union Square shoes
Let's start with your BMX background. Give us a short history.
Jimmy Mac McNeal: I've been BMX for very long time since the early '80s, I started competing in BMX racing at an early age and my love started with a mix of BMX and freestyle especially during that time period of the early '80s. I already started riding, but a friend was reading a BMX Action mag in 4th grade and loaned it to me. I was hooked. And it never stopped. I've been riding 45 plus years. Committed and always moto/skated for fun…
Did you learn much by doing Bulldog Bikes?
Jimmy Mac McNeal: Bulldog bikes was a great learning experience. We had a lot of success, and we had a lot of challenges. I had to get very creative because there was a lot of blocking going on where people didn't like exactly what we were doing. So it made me be able to innovate in distribution and sales and marketing. Using a hip hop approach like emcees like Too Short and other independent artists where they went direct to the consumer. Also being one of the early BMX sites starting our site in 1998 and being able to order on the phone and online, I basically modeled what Dan's was doing.
Yeww!
Shout out to everyone who came through, big thanks to our sponsors BSD, Federal, Source BMX + DamGood Coffeeshop for the prizes + prize money.
