Adelaide’s Brian Kirkham took little time in making his intentions clear to make London Olympic BMX team today by winning the DK Victorian State Titles in Frankston. The 24 year old had to reclaim some ground back from Port Macquarie’s Billy Jolliffe (NSW) and Boronia’s Matthew Dunsworth (VIC). A clash of handlebars and a swift move by Kirkham gave him the edge. Frankston’s Olivier Hoarau managed second place reconfirming his Olympic aspirations while Jolliffe claimed third. “I came out of the gate pretty good,” explained
Kirkham,
“Billy and Matt were on the inside and I had to shut them down. By mistake I left a gap for Tom (Sinmaa) so once I was in front I played it safe and took it to the finish.” Two days of racing started to take its toll on the off-season rider.
“I felt good yesterday but felt worst today and thankfully I just put it together for the final.” Kirkham will line up in the first round of the World Cup Supercross soon to be confirmed for either Madrid or South Africa in April.
