August 2021 marked my 20th year of riding BMX. Through the years I’ve experienced a lot, met a lot of cool people and definitely struggled with injuries. I still make time to go out and ride after all these years.
After Maca built up a fresh Park Ranger setup, we headed out for some sessions and got to filming. Working with Maca has been a treat, as you can see from the video. Do you remember the moment that you decided to start collecting BMX memorabilia?
Bob Lipsett Jr.: Exactly when! I bumped into my buddy 2 years ago that I used to ride with back in 1980. We were talking about his business and what I do and he made mention that he just bought a new SE racing PK Ripper. I instantly thought of my 1981 Super goose that I lost in my parents divorce when I was 12 so from that day until now I've been back involved with late seventies an early '80s BMX racers,
The Drug Aware Groundswell Festival at Scarborough Beach in Western Australia has grown steadily into a fantastic event over the past few years. A vital inclusion last year was the BMX bowl battle competition delivered last year by Freestyle Now, the world's longest running action sports enterprise based right here in Western Australia. “With Australia’s Logan Martin’s recent BMX Park Gold Medal win at the Tokyo Olympics, competitions such as this are critical to nurturing our next generation of BMX riders”, said Shaun Jarvis, BMX stunt show rider and owner of Freestyle Now.
The skatepark bowl at Scarborough is the largest in Western Australia and is a world-class venue. It sounds like a great challenge for photographers to get a BMX rider flying out of a “burrito” bowl!
