The final stop of the FISE World Series took place in Langkawi, one of the many islands of Malaysia. In great weather conditions it came down to the very last day to crown the 2015 champion. Points leaders Logan Martin (AUS) and Daniel Sandoval (USA) did not make any mistakes in Saturday's semi-final and easily transfered to the 12-men final event on Sunday. The park set-up at the Eagle Square was looking good with a hipped jump box, step-up, quarters, the hitching post, and a giant wall on one side. For street moves a flatrail was added plus some manual pads/ledges but focus for all riders was more on the transitions that were offered on the transportable course. The crowd turned up in full force, DJ Mike Rock took care of the tunes, Catfish was on the mic and it was time to start that party.
Vladislav Melnik (RUS) qualified in 12th place and that's where he ended up at. Vladislav trucked the bank to bank section and also tailwhipped the long distance. The Russian added a turndown
Saint Martin, the french BMX brand known since 2004 in the Flatland game, has given a new breath. Since the 4th of December 2015, St Martin is owned by MASSABOVA B. company held by Alain Massabova, rider since 1986, shop manager (La Crémerie, Nomadeshop) and media publisher (Cream, Flat Kings, A.R.T BMX), helped by his brother Manu, rider and webmaster (Agoride, The Rider Post), who is part of the brand since the beginning. While waiting for a new production, some t-shirts will be available in January 2016.
When a year starts it's hard to predict what will happen. Who will be on top form, who will get injured? When is bringing the new tricks and who will retire? 2015 is almost over and even when the BMX business isn't rather booming, still a whole lot happened this year. The contest schedule was full of jams and bigger events that took place all over the world. Once again we were fortunate enough to visit the UCI BMX SX World Cups and with the UCI World's and European Championships within an hour drive we visited more big races than we've done in the past years. 2016 will be the year that many athletes have worked towards to as the Olympics in Rio are on the schedule. 2016 will be the first year of UCI's involvement in freestyle with the FISE World Series being the official World Cup season. The IBMXFF also has a few things in the works so 2016 should be a busy one. But it's important the jams are happening and riders ride for the fun of it. The joy it gives to learn a new trick.
