Caroline Buchanan sat silently in the passenger seat next to her fiance, struggling to breathe and hitting the scariest point in her life as she turned to her childhood friend and said.. "Im not ready to die" On the outside she was calm. Silent and focused - just like she is before a BMX race. She stayed like that for 5 hours until she got transferred to the city hospital.
On the inside her body was a mess. A broken nose, broken sternum, two collapsed lungs and dangerous bleeding around her heart.
"I was running on adrenaline. About 30 minutes outside of Canberra the ambulance guy called the hospital and he had a shaky, nervous voice," Buchanan said. "If you're a paramedic you've seen a lot of things and they handle themselves so well. I thought if he's nervous ... that's when I knew it was life-threatening."
The two-time Olympian and eight-time world champion was at a friend's farm when an off-road buggy rolled and caused the injuries. The driver was OK but Buchanan was in debilitating pain and struggling to breathe. She knew something was seriously wrong and that's when she started to fight.
As the Red Bull Pump Track World Championship qualifiers continued in Riga and Oklahoma City, Olympians and World Champions, BMXers and Mountain Bikers from around the world put in their bid for a place at the world final. Oklahoma City was the location for the first of 2 qualifier events in the USA. The heat combined with windy conditions would put even the best of riders to the test. Olympic Bronze medallist and 3 x 4-Cross World Champion Jill Kintner would lead the attack in the women’s category. Elite BMX racer Alaina Henderson was not going to let Jill take the win without a fight. The final race came down to the wire with just 9/10’s of second separating them on the line. Jill would grab the win and secure a ticket to the world final for the women but we can expect to see an incredible battle between these two powerhouses again in the world final.

This year the most long-standing FISE event, in it's original Montpellier location, mixed things up a little and invited a bunch of legit street riders for their own separate event. Dennis Enarson, Chad Kerley, Dan Lacey, Courage Adams, Bruno Hoffmann and a bunch more were just getting into their flow during practice on Friday and qualifiers on Saturday before bad weather stopped play and shut down the whole event. Jonny Ashworth was there for DIG to catch a bunch of raw clips before the rains came. Enjoy.
Cool kids play with fire, so we decided it would be epic to set the skate park alight. Without Neal Webb and Chris James this edit would have been lonely and dark.
“Fed Up with The Bullshit – Act Like You Know Crew’s 4th full-length video. Three solid years of dedication from the usual cast, plus a few new soldiers we’ve handed the torch down to. No sponsors, no travel budgets, no ‘practicing’ – just straight riding from the bottomless pits of East Coast and Midwest cities." - alykcru.com
