Woodward BMX Director, Jamie Barnhart was on a mission this past summer to ride as much as possible. Between juggling radio calls, running contests and making The Woodward Experience the best it can be for all of our campers, Jamie was throwing down riding every square inch camp had to offer. When was the point for you that you thought you had a good chance of going to the 2016Olympics in Rio?
Luis Brethauer: Pretty much directly after the London Olympics I set myself the goal to qualify for Rio. But because of the injuries I had in the qualification years, sometimes I wasn’t really sure about my chances to actually represent Germany another time. But through the end of 2015 it started to look pretty good that I’ll get the one spot through the individual ranking.
In a sport mainly dominated by male athletes, Nikita Ducarroz has risen to great heights not only athletically but professionally as well. Ducarroz has a special skill not only on her bike but when it comes to business as well. Social media has become a very popular way for action sports athletes to promote their careers. Ducarroz has become very talented in this type of promotion. Her Instagram account alone has nearly 20,000 followers. Ducarroz is also setting a great example for BMX riders by becoming an entrepreneur at such an early age.
When she was just 15, Ducarroz started FDV, a company that offered BMX gear and clothing to riders all across the world. Getting started early was a key point for Ducarroz's success in the BMX industry. She had always loved jumping off of things on her bike as a kid, but things really changed when she was 13 and started seeing BMX videos, and being inspired by some of the greatest BMX tricks ever.
Ducarroz is excited to see more competitions and push herself as a rider. Continuing to meet her current sponsors' expectations and seek new sponsors is also a part of Ducarroz's game plan.
We were lucky enough to get to film and ride Wasatch Bike Park before it was opened. Jonesy Fedderson and Kurt Perkins had some things they wanted to try. It's super cold and snowy in Salt Lake City so this was sweet to get out of the snow to ride. Thank you Wasatch Bike Park for the hospitality
No matter how much time passes or how much certain spots stay the same, the sessions never get any less fun. Always a pleasure getting in a hometown session with my good friend, Toppy.
