In 2014, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania O.G. trails rider Mike Gentilcore made a dream of his a reality. It was a DIY event that blended a mix of BMX racing and real trails, racers and trail riders alike riding together. Basically it was two riders at a time head-to-head down a legit trails course, with the winners of each moto moving on to the next round.
Finally, Some Authentic Fresh Rubber for the Old School scene! For those riders and collectors out there, we have opened a mold for the iconic mid-1980s Panaracer Freestyle tire. The tire is upgraded to accommodate high pressure - up to 85 psi - and features the same tread, logo, and aesthetics as the original model.
As most will already know, this tire was OEM specification on the Redline RL 20 Prostyler and the Redline RL20 II Prostyler through the mid-1980s as well as the neon range of Haro Freestylers - The Master, Sport, and FST - in 1985. Preorder is open on the Redline Foundations website for those interested in grabbing a set. Availability is limited from the first batch.
Finally BMX events are regaining traction and this trend continued over the weekend, as Swiss Cycling together with Freestyle Park Ticino hosted the 2021 Swiss Freestyle BMX Championships. The event took place at the Freestyle Park Ticino in Cadenazzo, a FISE standard park built by Hurricane in 2019 which takes no prisoners and boasts a good mix of big jumps, transfers, but also a smaller street-style section. The finals kicked off with the ladies, where we saw the inclusion of WCMX (wheelchair motocross) athlete Lorraine Truong. After a super stylish first run with a good mix of creative rotations, laybacks and lines, she decided to pull out all the stops for her second run and start by dropping in on the big vert ramp, definitely one of the highlights of the event.
