Union Cyclist International announced today that Houston, Texas, has been selected as the site of the 2020 UCI BMX World Championships. The Harris County - Houston Sports Authority worked in conjunction with the United States Olympic Committee, USA Cycling, USA BMX and Greenspoint Redevelopment Authority to present the winning bid to the UCI. The Championship event will take place May 26-May 31, 2020 at North Houston Bike Park.

Qualifying racing on Saturday at the UCI BMX SX World Cup determines who can race on the next day. The top 48 in the Men's class makes it to Sunday's program while top 16 in the girls meet up with the 8 pre-qualified riders who are ranked the highest in the overall ranking coming into the last World Cup race of the season. 16 Men are pre-qualified making their group a 64 rider deep class for Sunday's race. Things got exciting in what seems to be the last Time Trials event at a UCI BMX SX World Cup. Put money on the line and riders will fight harder to set the fastest time on the track. It wasn't just bragging rights, heat selection and lane-pick in Sarasota, $1000,= USD went to the winners in both the Men and Women category. And who doesn't want to win $1000 bucks for a fast lap on the track? With four Time Trials wins this season Tory Nyhaug came in as the favourite, but mental games were going on in the pits and the Canadian couldn't make it stick. Sylvain André from France grabbed the hot seat early on and was waiting to see if someone could beat his time. Nyhaug came closest with a difference of 0.036s. Luckily Dave van der Burg (NED) was fast too so his song could be stopped as soon as he crossed the finishline to get third. ;-).
