Lots of BMX-ers showed up to watch round 2 of the THQ AMA Supercross in Anaheim. Among the 40.000 people were Robert de Wilde, Randy Stumphauser, Big E, Robbie and Ane Morales and Danny Hubbard to name a few.
With Bubba Stewart and Travis Pastrana out with injuries it left the battle for first in the 250cc class to Ricky Carmichael, Kevin WIndham and Chad Reed. RC got the holeshot with Reed in hot pursuit. Windham was coming from 18th place but rode strong and finished 3rd when the checkered flag was waved. Reed bobbled in the rhythm section and crashed and this is where RC took off. Check here for the other results. 
The ABA season traditionally starts with the race in Reno. It's a bit of a drive from So-Cal. I did the trip twice. Once with Pete Delewski in the WD-40 GT box van (1996). We stopped at some trails on the way up and after the Silver Nationals we went snowboarding with Gary Ellis where Pete broke his wrist and still drove all the way back to Santa Ana. The other time was in the S&M van (1995) with 9 people in a white van driving through a snow storm with no windshield wipers. Both adventurous trips with good memories. Todd Lyons was leading the ABA double A Pro standings after the race in Reno in 1995. Let's see who's leading now. 
Lierop is a small village in the South of Holland with a big motocross heart. It's got 1500 inhabitants and 569 of them volunteered to work at the MXoN to make it a success.
Even with no team USA present (but we spotted Bubba) it was a great race. To be honest I wasn't sure if team Holland would make it through qualifying on Saturday. Turns out that the Dutch team climbed on the podium on Sunday which surprised everyone. You don't want to know how often I've tried to sit down and write up a story on the UCI World's in Valkenswaard. With the event taking place months ago I'm now trying to remember interesting things that took place in the packed BMX stadium. Here's a little report on the cruiser action.
World Championship events always come with good parties. In 2004 I managed to squeeze in the BMX Freestyle World's in Cologne, Germany, the UCI MTB World's in Les Gets, France and the UCI BMX World Championship after party in Valkenswaard, The Netherlands. How do they compare? 
Robert de Wilde has come up with another update straight out of the USA. Robert is Holland's only pro BMX racer ever who made it to the big time in the USA. He's living the pro life with his wife Mariella in Santa Ana, California. Here's Robert's latest update.
It’s been a while, sorry about that. I think the last little story was in March or April. The season has come to an end now and we have 3 new champions. Kyle Bennett won the NBL title, Bubba Harris won the ABA title and Warwick Stevenson won the UCI title. 
Paul, Franske and myself visited the US Open of Supercross in Las Vegas two nights in a row. We had been spending time at the Interbike show and at the Hardrock during the beginning of the week. On Friday it was time to move on from the BMX world into the MX world and we hung out at the Dirt Expo together with the Universal MX crew who served chilled Corona's and Coors light. The night action consisted of some serious SX racing in the MGM with riders on new equipment and wearing new 05 gear. In between chilling in the seats watching the races I managed to take some pics. For the report I'm taking the easy route by using the official press release with results. Enjoy. 
The 7 rider crew from Aarle-Rixtel had shrunk to 3 for the Boekel race. Paul, Edward and myself made the trip on the early Sunday morning. Sign up was a lot better handled than the weekend before and once back at the vehicles we set up camp and got ready for practice. Another fast track but the soil was kind of muddy so not too many uncontrolled wheelies out of the turns this time. 
The StoppelCross season has started. The first race was going to be in Handel. The Aarle-Rixtel locals met up at Paul's place at 08:15am. We waited for Lippe to come over from Germany but he either got lost (again) or never got out of bed as he didn't pick up the phone when I tried to call.
7 riders left in 5 vehicles. Harm "CR 23" Vogels and Edward "Texas Ranger" Schippers in the front, followed by Bart "Shift" de Hoon in the company Caddy and the three vans of myself, Paul's Ford van and Bern Buster's Benz. Rob Nouwens scored a ride with Bern. 20 minutes later and we had arrived. It was going to be the first race ever for Harm, Edward and Bart de Hoon, all of them riding 250cc Honda's. 
Through my job with HARO bikes I made another trip to the MTB World Championships. If you have to pick one race a year, it might as well be the biggest event. After a long drive I arrived in the French Alps, Les Gets to be exact. I ran into Dale Holmes who was already looking for hot bitches on his Free Agent MTB. I soon made my way over to the Boomerang bar which was supposed to be the hot spot in town. 
After doing a BMX 'zine for ten years (1987 - 1996) FATBMX made it on the internet. The year was 1998. Here to stay.
