Velokhaya is a government funded effort to get more kids from impoverished areas onto bikes. On the entry form it read that they would only accept 120 riders but I had my doubts that so many riders would be there. I was wrong. So many kids arrived they had to cut off the entries and they were all ready to race! German coach Swen Lauer has done a great job as I saw all the riders doing stretches and warming up properly before the race as opposed to myself who just did skids in the parking lot to get ready.

Olympic gold medalist Maris Strombergs (LAT) displayed his dominance winning round three of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup, presented by Swatch in Chula Vista, California on Saturday. Australian Sam Willoughby earned the silver while American Connor Fields (Henderson, Nev.) grabbed the bronze. Strombergs put on a dominant performance on the Beijing Olympic replica track winning each of his heats as well as his quarter and semi final rounds.
Willoughby, winner of round #2 of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup in South Africa, used consistency advancing through each round with ease winning two and a 3rd in his heats. In the final Strombergs got a great jump out of his lane one start position, grabbing the all-important holeshot heading into the first turn which seemed to be a drag race with Willoughby coming from lane 5. Once Maris opened up a lead it was nearly impossible for anyone to pass. Willoughby held in second on the fast, big air course to grab the silver ahead of American Connor Fields.

Olympic medalists and California natives Mike Day (Santa Clarita, Calif./GT) and Donny Robinson (Napa, Calif./Hyper) posted the fastest qualifying times of the day on day one of round three of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup, presented by Swatch in Chula Vista, California on Friday. Olympic gold medalist Maris Strombergs of Latvia was right on the heels of the American pair in third while Australia's Sam Willoughby, winner of the second round of the Supercross World Cup in South Africa, posted the fourth best time.

What was the reason for you to decide it was time for an old school BMX reunion?

Gerrit Does: Bart, in 2002 I did organise the 1st. Old Skool of BMX Reunion for Dutch and Belgium riders at the BMX track in Luyksgestel-Holland. About 250 people gathered there and we had a great time. Many of the O.S.'ers did not see eachother for about 10 years. Many of them were married and had small children. In fact at this Reunion I decided to organise another one, 5 years later, so in 2008.
