LIVE ON FATBMX: UCI BMX SX World Cup Verona, Italy. Round 1.
The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) is pleased to announce that the first two rounds of the 2021 UCI BMX SX World Cup, which were scheduled to take place in Stuttgart (Germany) on 8 and 9 May before being cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, will now take place, at the planned dates, in Verona (Italy). A week beforehand, on 1-2 May, the Italian city will host the two opening rounds of the UEC BMX European Cup on the same track. These two competitions feature on the 2021 UCI BMX International Calendar: the first is a Class 1 event and the second Hors Class.

The 1st heat of the 1st round saw the winner cross the line in 1st. Due to deteriorating weather conditions the event was called off after the Elite Men had run Round 1. According to UCI rules the fastest rider in the Round takes top spot. Women didn't race.

Connor Fields (USA) is doing well in the series followed by Anthony Dean (AUS) in 2nd and Carlos Ramirez (COL) in 3rd.

The rider with the Red Numberplate is the leader of the UCI BMX SX World Cup. There are two plates in total. One for Women. One for Men. After the first two rounds of the UCI BMX SX World Cup Connor Fields and Alise Willoughby will be bringing the leader plates to Bathurst for UCI BMX SX World Cup rounds 3 and 4 next weekend 8 - 9 February 2020. The racing will continue in the 10-round series but getting the lead and running that plate certainly means something. Congrats to the American duo on running the series.

As a Dutchman looking at the final results from Shepparton you won't catch me saying: "It ain't much if it ain't Dutch." I would say that it has been a while that no rider from the Netherlands made it to a UCI BMX SX World Cup final in Men or Women. Even Laura Smulders and Niek Kimmann did not go through. That doesn't mean that the racing in the finals wasn't good. It was just missing some of my favourite riders. See who did what in the race results below and watch the videos when they are finished. Racing in the Olympic year gets serious.
