For the past couple of years the ITS Micro Knobby and MK2 have been two of the most successful and popular tyres used in BMX racing. As great as the tyres are, with their 5,000 mini-knobs, low rolling resistance, low weight and high pressure, ITS has another great racing tyre-the Hustler. Although it was designed for street riding, the Hustler caught the eyes of several pro riders who recognized its potential as a great racing tyre. Sifiso Nhalapo may have been the first to start running it in the front then front and rear. Others soon began giving it a try. Last year at the UCI Supercross race in Chula Vista, the semi-slick Hustler was the hot rear tyre for beating the slippery starting gate.
When BMX racing industry guru Pete Delewski left VSI it didn't take long for him to set up a few new BMX companies. One of them is Insight BMX, maker of number plates, mini combo seats, pads and numbers.
If BMX wouldn't be growing, there wouldn't be this many BMX magazines. On 31 March The Albion is seeing daylight and also 2024 is a brand new BMX magazine out of the UK. Next to Dig, RIDE UK, Chase and Fastlane they sure have things covered over in Great Britain. The Olympics are coming to town and they've given BMX racing a big boost. Reason for 2024 to get things going. The premiere issue has the following articles:
Shovel hands. I can say I got some at the minute. Countless hours were spent at the trails lately because the weather has been great, the jams are coming up, and the spots needed some new jumps. But it's not about the calluses on my hands from working that shovel here, it's about the Deluxe Grips. These babies are thick (30 mm), soft, and 15 centimeters wide. Your bike will feel different when you throw a pair of these on it. If you prefer thick grips, these Shovelhands
Pro-Tec sent over a package with pads, gloves and helmets for the upcoming ONK at the Helm Trails. It's rough seeing kids kill themselves not wearing any protectiong gear so even if you don't have the money for it, these Pro-Tec items will be given away at the 2011 Open Dutch BMX Dirt championships on 1 May. That includes the collaboration helmet that Pro-Tec did with Odyssey, some Hands Down gloves, Pinner LT elbow pads, Gravity knee pads and the Cyphon bike helmet. Protect yourself and keep going.
The latest edition features the Spring/Summer 2011 collection in focus, presents the latest news, stories behind the brand and current projects. It includes an editorial photo shoot with Jamie xx from the British band The xx, followed by an extended interview. A large retrospective honours all artists who have participated in our illustration campaigns until today. The exclusive photo shoot by Shauna T. from P.A.M. highlights our Women Spring/Summer
The mags always seem to come out at once. 3 previews/reviews today and we also got the 150th issue of Ride UK in the mail. Here's what you can expect from the May/June issue of RIDEBMX:
The very first issue of A.R.T. BMX magazine arrived in the mailbox today. ART stands for Attitude, Riding and Travel which has the main ingredients of BMX covered. The size is a bit smaller than most mags, but it feels good when you hold it in your hands. It's a little bigger than a 'zine so the photos still come out good. ART is about BMX worldwide. They cover pretty much any BMX event that is happening on this globe through contributions to the mag and because of their big staff. It's good to see Mat Hoffman on the cover. The man deserves all respect he gets. When is the last time you saw a vert cover on a BMX mag? Based in Paris the ART crew does things their own way, with their own attitude.
After doing a BMX 'zine for ten years (1987 - 1996) FATBMX made it on the internet. The year was 1998. Here to stay.
