Where else but Montpellier—la ville fidèle to the spirit of urban sports—to host the opening round of the 2025 UCI BMX Freestyle World Cup? Since 1997, this Mediterranean gem has welcomed no fewer than 28 major urban sports festivals, and this year was no exception. As part of the emblematic Festival des Sports Extrêmes (FISE), the city once again came alive, offering a thrilling stage for the Park, Street, Spine Mini and Flatland disciplines. Over the course of a week, an estimated 300,000 spectators were treated to a veritable spectacle of talent, adrenaline, and sheer artistry on two wheels.
BMX Park Men: La crème de la crème under the sun
To ensure fair and ample practice time for all, the Men’s Park event imposed a cut at 72 riders—a practical choice, and a nod to the professionalism that defines this sport at its highest level. After the pause following December’s UCI Urban Cycling World Championships in Abu Dhabi, riders returned revitalized, their arsenals of tricks freshly sharpened and ready to be unveiled on this prestigious stage.
The gods of weather smiled upon Montpellier. Despite the heat—intense, almost Provençal in its brilliance—the skies stayed dry, and support crews came prepared à la française, armed with coolers, baguettes, sunglasses, and parasols.
Montpellier celebrates its champions on the parks, ramps, kickers, boxes and in the air. Since last Wednesday, FISE Montpellier has transformed the Occitan city into the world capital of urban sports, welcoming nearly 300,000 visitors and 1,500 international athletes. Seven sports were featured, including four Olympic disciplines for Paris 2024 (BMX Freestyle Park, Skateboarding, Breaking, and 3x3 Basketball), with more than 80 elite competitions, including four World Cup stops. The level of competition lived up to the high expectations throughout this Ascension Week.
One of the standout moments of this 28th edition was the kickoff of the UCI BMX Freestyle Park World Cup. French rider Anthony Jeanjean, bronze medalist in Paris last summer, claimed second place,

In BMX Street, Monster Energy’s Jordan Godwin from Newport, United Kingdom, took first place. Rounding out a great weekend for Monster Energy, 25-year-old German team rider Felix Prangenberg from Cologne claimed third place in BMX Street with a technical run.
In the BMX Best Trick competition, 29-year-old Ryan Williams from Sunshine Coast, Australia, soared above the competition to claim first place with a face-melting trick.
From May 8-12, FISE World Montpellier attracted some of the world’s premier action sports athletes to the banks of the Lez River for competitions in BMX, scooter, parkour, roller skate, and skateboard disciplines.
In the BMX Park Final, Monster Energy’s Anthony Jeanjean dropped in as a favorite after a series of high-profile wins, including first place at the Converse ULT.X event in South Africa in March. But he also came to Montpellier with a score to settle after the victory eluded him when he finished in close second place last year.

UCI BMX FREESTYLE PARK WORLD CUP FINAL - WOMEN:
Everything was set for an exciting hour of BMX. The sun was up, the wind was down and the crowd were ready to see the amazing progression of the BMX Women's community. The panel of judges were looking for style, amplitude and tricks, and they were not disappointed. Once again Hannah Roberts was unbeatable. She did not make any mistakes, she completed a perfect run, starting with a whip on the spine, and ending with a flair. Two tricks among others that she is the only woman to master so well. In
