The 2025 edition was officially launched on September 10 with an opening ceremony that symbolically fused tradition and innovation. Local government leaders from the Shanghai Sports Bureau and Xuhui District attended, underlining strong institutional support for the event.
At the launch, the festival’s annual theme was revealed: “The Slope of Possibility”. Through a short film and athlete testimonials, the theme highlighted the slope as both a physical challenge and a metaphor for breaking limits. Parkour double world champion Shang Chunsong, rising Skateboarding star Zhou Zeyan, and Brazilian BMX coach Caio Sousa shared their journeys of resilience and self-discovery, embodying the spirit of FISE Shanghai 2025.
ELITE ATHLETES, EXTREME ACTION
For the first time in Asia, the legendary Spine Ramp Contest, a signature discipline from Montpellier, will debut in Shanghai. Athletes in BMX, Roller, Scooter, and Skateboard will compete on FISE’s iconic ramp in spectacular, high-difficulty contests.
In addition, the festival will introduce a new Speed Climbing Open competition, breaking away from traditional formats with innovative route design to showcase FISE’s creative edge. Night sessions will also be staged for the first time, extending the festival’s energy into the evening and establishing Shanghai as a landmark for the night-time sports economy.
Top international athletes are already confirmed, including Jose Torres Gil, 2024 Olympic BMX Freestyle Park Champion; Natalya Diehm, 2024 Olympic bronze medalist; and Sasha Pardoe, 2024 European BMX Champion.
BEYOND COMPETITION: AN URBAN FESTIVAL FOR EVERYONE
FISE Shanghai is not only a world-class sporting event but also a multi-dimensional urban festival. The West Bund site will host over 200 brands and clubs across extreme sports, street culture, music, gaming, food, and outdoor lifestyle. Families, Gen-Z audiences, and sports enthusiasts alike will enjoy immersive experiences, interactive workshops, and live performances throughout the four-day program.
By merging sports, culture, tourism, and commerce, FISE Shanghai drives new models of consumption and contributes to the city’s international reputation as a hub for sports and lifestyle innovation. Xuhui District will leverage the event to activate new consumption scenarios and connect with major city initiatives such as Shanghai Summer and the Shanghai Sports Consumption Festival.
With its unique blend of competition, culture, and community, FISE Shanghai is set to become more than a sporting event, it is a city-wide celebration. By combining global elite performances with local cultural experiences, FISE Shanghai continues to shape Shanghai as a new international destination for sports consumption and urban vitality.
