Roseville, Ca., The ABA National held in Roseville recently was a great weekend of racing and one of the highlights was sidehack racing. Yep sidehack racing has had a resurgence into modern day BMX with riders looking to challenge themselves with the help of a "monkey" and a different bike setup. The sidehack race was 3 gates of racing to the tune of 9 groups entered to race.

BMX racing has become an Olympic sport. With only 48 spots open for the BMX community, it's good to know how to make it to the Olympics in 2008. [url=//fatbmx.com/modules/news/article.php?storyid=1400]Doug Martin[/url], USA's Director of BMX Programs for '08 Olympics, sent over some info that should clear things up:
In Beijing, there are a total of forty-eight (48) BMX start positions: thirty-two (32) for men and sixteen (16) for women. Olympic start positions are not guaranteed - they must be earned. The process described below was established by the UCI and is the same for every country.

It is important to understand that the Olympic Games represent a global ideal based on the world coming together once every four years to watch the best from every country compete. 

History: In the beginning England first experienced BMX in 1980 when Geoff Wiles was sent over to the USA by the Halford's head-office based in Redditch, near Birmingham. His mission was to check out and assess a new cycle sport called Bicycle Motocross - "BMX". He was, "Blown away" by what he saw and immediately on his return kick started operations to build a BMX track in Redditch to duplicate what he saw in the States and to set-up the first UK race.

Being the first official track to be built in the UK, Redditch was "The Blue Print" and hundreds of tracks soon appeared across the U.K.

So far it has been a pretty diverse season in ABA AA PRO racing. We have had six PRO Series event weekends and have seven different winners in the class. That's pretty exciting if you ask me! When's the last time you can remember seven different winners in any one AA PRO season? We still have 9 event weekends left for this to go down as one of the best season's of all-time. Tulsa, OK. and the ABA GRANDS and going to be a real barn burner for sure!  Below is the list of winners so far:

- El Cajon, California – The Formula Factory team was all over the map this past weekend with riders in Texas and in Florida representing. Donny Robinson was trying to continue his winning ways at the ABA’s Super Nationals in Desoto, Texas while Amanda Geving kept it close to home racing the last NBL Florida State qualifier at Charlotte BMX in Punta Gorda. Donny rolled into Metroplex BMX in Desoto as the hottest Pro on the tour. Could dR keep the win streak alive? Here’s Donny himself on how the weekend went:

“Pretty simple really. I wasn’t the overall fastest rider this weekend. Kyle Bennett was riding really well. I had trouble with the first jump all weekend and little mistakes cost me.”

The national series in Norway opened this past weekend with unusually beautiful weather. With low twenties celsius and clear skies, this was not usual for Norway this time of the year. Needless to say, the racers and spectators were loving it. And just as they did last year, Team Redline~Norway came out on top all weekend.

The MX GP just finished and here are the results and a bunch of pictures for those BMX-ers that care about motocross. It was actually a good race with no surprising winner in the MX 1 class (Everts) but an new winner in the MX2 class (Frenchy Christophe Pourcel). 31.000 people visited the race both days. The evening was full of drunk Germans in the beer-tent and we gave it a miss this time. I'm typing this up in the press room waiting for the biggest crowd to hit the road before starting the 6 hour drive back to Holland.  Back to work tomorrow. 

FATBMX is down in Teutschenthal for the unofficial FAT WHIP contest. In BMX we have the Tabletop and in Motocross they have the Whip. Perfectly performed, both tricks are the very best if you ask me, I have no problem watching a Vic Murphy tabletop and a Ronnie Renner whip all day long.

At the Karcher Grand Prix Motocross in Teutschenthal, Germany, the riders did have some time to mess about during practice. There were plenty of jumps to choose from to show their style. We managed to snap some shots and will leave it up to you which one you like best.
