What does it mean to you to win the national champion title in such a competitive field?
Sarah Nicki: The girls have gotten so good. So much improvement for all of the girls, all of them. They all challenge me. Any girl could have gotten the win. I'm stoked I've pulled it off but I'm more stoked to see the progression in Women's BMX, especially in Australia. I'm so proud of these girls watching them from their first jump over the boxes to now, it's insane. Winning to me means being able to show all the kids I coach, and everyone around them, inspire them and show them that if you put the work in, you can get what you want to get. It's not all about winning, it's about setting yourself goals and achieving those goals and being proud of yourself and building up the community. I'm very happy to have won but I'm also so proud of the other girls.
There was a strong turnout of younger riders over the weekend. How important is it for you to see that next generation coming through, and what are your plans for the rest of 2026?
Sarah Nicki: There was such a big crew for the younger generation and they all did so amazing. I'm very priviledged to be coaching a lot of the kids in the younger generation between boys and girls. All the kids have really pushed themselves and having so much fun watching them learn to love BMX has been the best thing. The little wins and the smiles on their faces is so special. I really want to just keep coaching and mentoring these kids and be there for them. Give them guidance, teaching them about different parts of BMX, competition preparation, just help them find their love for BMX, that's so important to me.
My Plans for the rest of the year is to be at the Oceania Championships on the 22nd of March at The Village Park. I'm planning on going to Montpellier, France and I'm looking at the other World Cups such as Alabama, China and Japan I think. I'll see which ones I can get to. My goal is to have as much fun on the bike as I can. A huge one I want to go to this year is the Act Jam again. I've been to most Act Jams and I love every part of it. The atmosphere is amazing so I want to go to that again. But most importantly I want to just have fun on the bike and inspire not just the younger generation but anyone who wants to ride BMX.
