In a breath taking final, Australian Ryan Guettler wins the Braun Spine contest at the UK Bike Show to become the first leader of the Braun cruZer Tour ranking.
Stoneleigh, UK – 03 April 2005. 39 riders representing 11 nations gathered at the 2005 UK Bike Show for the first contest on the world’s largest mobile mini-ramp. The 250m2 ramp, designed by Peter Jandt and Stephan Prantl, features a 2m high (6.6 feet) spine which proved to be a challenge even to the very best, amongst whom Ryan Nyquist multiple X Games winner as well former world champion Dave Osato.
The Braun Spine contest proved to be the pinnacle event of the 2005 UK Bike Show. 2004 mini-ramp world champion
Paddy Gross from Germany finished 7th and declared:
‘I’m stoked, finishing 7th with such a field in the first stage of the Braun cruZer Tour made my day. Did you see who is there, it’s just unbelievable. I’m really looking forward to defending my title in Prague at the upcoming world championships, especially on such a great ramp’.
After attempting a ice pick tail whip on a sub box,
Dave Osato from Vancouver – Canada finished fourth with a combination of 540 tricks such as nose picks and 540 airs. He declared:
‘This my kind of ramp, I can’t wait to come back, I’ve now got some unfinished business to do …’
Alistair Whitton from the UK finished 3rd while
Ryan Nyquist despite first ever pulled backflip over Braun Spine took second overall. His comment was very straight forward:
‘I was looking forward to riding the Braun Spine and am not disappointed at all. I now need to see how I can make back to Europe to compete in the next stages of the Braun cruZer Tour. It’s great that the riders now have such a great spine to compete on at major European events’.
Overall winner of the Braun Spine contest is 21 year-old
Ryan Guettler from Brisbane – Australia. Ryan stunned the crowd and his fellow riders with his fast combination of back to back high class tricks such as flip whip, 540s and spine 720s.
‘I love that spine ramp, that’s what I feel comfortable on. I did all the stuff I wanted to do and I had more time left. I wasn’t hurt already so I thought lets serve out the 7 and tried a flair whip … so that’s what happened. I will try to come to as many stages of the Braun cruZer Tour as I can.’
Ryan Guettler is now leading the Braun cruZer Tour ranking.
