„We can look back on a fantastic BMC weekend,“ said organization boss Stephan Prantl. „The girls and guys from the amateur and pro ranks gave their all and weren‘t scared of the heat. With the support of everyone involved – from the helpers to sponsors and partners, and including the public officials and facilities – we could offer our fans a great festival.“
In the Cologne Jugendpark, the organizers moved away from giving world championship titles in this jubilee meeting and also reduced the number of competitive disciplines. The decision was made to concentrate more strongly on three freestyle disciplines each year. In 2014, Flatland, Dirt and Bowl were on.
Around 300 riders from 38 countries found their way to Cologe, including top German riders like Paul Thölen (Dirt, Superbowl), Michael Meisel (Dirt) and Kevin Nikulski (Flatland) as well as other stars of the scene, such as from Australia (Brandon Loupos / Dirt, Logan Martin / SuperBowl), the USA (Nick Bruce / SuperBowl), Venezuela (Daniel Dhers / SuperBowl), Poland (Dawid Godziek / Dirt), the Netherlands (Daniel Wedemeijer / SuperBowl), England (Alex Coleburn, Mark Webb / SuperBowl), France (Timothe Bringer / Dirt) and Hungary (Konrad Szabo / Dirt).
Competitions were carried out over the weekend for both pros and amateurs. The finale on the spectacular Dirt Line, which was carried out Saturday night and was the only competition in which only pros appeared, was decided by Leandro Moreira (Brazil, 1st place), Brandon Loupos (Australia, 2nd place) and Michael Meisel of Kulmbach (3rd place).
The first three places in the Flatland contest went after a hot show on Sunday afternoon to Dominik Nekolny (Czech Republic, 1st place), Moto Sasaki (Japan, 2nd place) and Matthieu Bonnécuelle (France, 3rd place).
The SuperBowl offered the fans three finales one after another. In the morning the girls fought it out for first place. Lara Lessmann of Germany took the win with a never-before-seen flair. Second and third went to Shanice Silva Cruz (Netherlands) and Rebecca Berg (Germany). They were followed by the amateur men, and then the pros had their turn in the heat of the Jugendpark. The superstars Alex Coleborn (England, 1st place), Logan Martin (Australiia, 2nd place) and Daniel Dhers (Venezuela, 3rd place) put on a show to tumultuous applause.
At the start of the 30th jubilee of the Snipes BMX Cologne, the organization showed a documentary film produced especially for the occasion, „Ritual – 30 Years BMX in the Jugendpark“ Thursday evening to 300 viewers at the Cinedom. Film material from around the world and from the last three decades was sought, looked at, cut and put together. What resulted is a historical document over BMX, a real cult movement which has come to call Cologne its home.
