When young BMX rider Felix Prangenberg’s friends ask what he did on his summer vacation, he may have the best story of all – earning a trip to X Games Los Angeles, and winning Red Bull Phenom as his heroes watched. After a global video search for the best and brightest young talent,
Prangenberg and five additional riders from around the world competed in front of a team of judges lead by legendary rider
Mike “Rooftop” Escamilla, X Games gold medalist
Garrett Reynolds and BMX Plus editor
Ben Crockett.

After searching through 105 submitted videos from 24 different countries, the six most talented riders chosen by
Escamilla received an all-expenses trip to X Games Los Angeles and VIP experience that they will not soon forget. The finalists competed on the same course used for the pros and showed they were able to throw down tricks worthy of the big stage. In addition to the trip, the overall winner also gets their video professionally produced by Red Bull.
The youngest rider in the contest turned out to be the most outstanding talent to the group, putting together not just amazing tricks but runs reminiscent of the pros’ style.
Escamilla was pleased with how his video selections turned out when it came time to repeating in person:
“They didn’t disappoint. I think there is some real talent out there, and I think a couple of those guys especially you’ll see a lot more of. Felix (Prangernberg) is the youngest and littlest, but it felt like his runs packed in more tricks, and they were difficult and dialed.” The most dominant BMX rider in X Games Street
Garrett Reynolds agreed:
“It was hard to judge, everyone had their own way of riding. Felix was the most consistent. That kid just did more.” The German prodigy, who is enjoying the first time visiting the U.S. was all smile and almost speechless afterwards.
“It’s an honor just to be involved and have the possibility, winning the contest was the icing on top.” Second place finisher
Grant Germain, relished in the opportunity to ride in front of his heroes.
“I love it here! I always looked up to guys like Garrett and Rooftop and their videos influenced my riding. To have them judge, it’s really awesome!” Final results Red Bull Phenom 2013:1. Felix Prangenberg (GER) 71
2. Brandon Webster (CAN) 68*
3. Grant Germain (USA) 68*
4. Mitchell Kent (USA) 68*
