TBBO is one of the BMX highlights in Belgium. Each Summer the concrete skatepark in Hasselt becomes a huge BMX playground. The parking lot gets transformed into dirt jumps and a makeshift campsite keeps things cosy. Bikers from Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany and the occasional stray Brazilian and Canadian invade Kapermolen for 3 days, ready to battle it out in park, dirt and street.
The contest kicked off on Saturday with the amateur events. The

riding level was very high with riders throwing 720's, barrel rolls, 360 whips and truck drivers with ease. -16 competed in a separate class, but they could easily have given the +16 a run for their money. Watch out for these kids, because they'll be dominating the scene in a few years to come! Most remarkable feat of the day however was the comeback of
Cedric Sels.

He has been off his bike for a year since TBBO in 2012 and literally got back on his bike the day of the contest. A few hours practice was enough for him to take 2nd spot in the +16 amateur contest with a no handed foot jam, double tail whip and a no handed backflip out of the bowl onto the bank. Respect!
It was great to see a big mix of riding styles throughout the weekend too.

Some riders felt more at home in the bowl area, whilst others were real street shredders who killed it on the steps, rails and ledges. Quite a big challenge for the judges though, because it's not easy to compare such diverse styles in one class.
The most dominant factor on Sunday was the scorching sun. 31°C and no clouds in sight is great for a trip to the beach, but it's brutal when you are about to compete in pro park.

Completing a run without completely dehydrating by itself was a feat of strength. Luckily TBBO kept the riders fuelled with a cocktail of water and Red Bull during the day. Local rider
Fausto Cesario took the first qualifying spot in pro park, but in the final it became a free for all. To balance things out each rider got a 1 minute run on each of the sections of the skatepark: street, bowl and box/spine. Not all riders where prepared for this, so some of the runs where rather improvised.

At the end of the day the Germans came out on top in both pro park and dirt.
Felix Prangenberg proved once again why he came third in pro street at BMX Worlds last weekend and
Michael Meisel took first place in pro dirt.
To top it off there were some smaller events.
Alex Vantomme proved once again he's the king of bunny hops with his record height of 120 cm.
Daniel Portoreal busted out a crazy combo line on the street course to take home the "Best Street Trick" prize. TBBO really earned it's family event label by having a special -

6 contest for the smallest bikers around. To make the riding mix even more diverse there was a flat jam session which kept the crowd entertained. Finally a big shout out goes to all the volunteers that made this event possible and helped create this relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Looking forward to TBBO 2014!
