Cueson heat was close, as well as the
Morgan Wade - Mark Webb one. Cueson made it to the next round with 720 barspins and mega airs on the quarters that were set up as a vert ramp.
Coleborn threw some tech moves in the mix to transfer.
Gary Young had a blazing first run and eliminated
Monkey. Bruno Hoffmann's first run was so good that Mattis had a hard time catching up.
Jason Phelan rode two consistent runs but the
Beran show was on and as always he added one more whip or spin to every trick to got to round two.
Morgan Wade knows how to handle contests and when he needs to shred, he is right there. But his opponent thinks

the same and after seeing Morgan do some 720-s, flairs, rail grinds, whips and a no-handed 360 over the spine, the Englishman countered with no-handed flairs, 720s, truckdrivers, tech moves and a million other tricks in his first run. That first run gave
Mark Webb a place in the second round. On Saturday night the brackets were drawn in a club in Berlin. When you pick
Maddog out of that hat, you are not happy. But
Ondra Slez is a great rider and he didn't make it easy on
Brett Banasiewicz. Ondra did a 450 truck over the hip, a barspin flip on the box, almost pulled a frontie over the bank to bank, and did a decade air over the spine among other things. But Maddog didn't come to Berlin to lose. His consistent riding was a pleasure to watch. Even the 14 year old girls in the crowd were screaming. Bring on the next round.

Imagine you're a teenager and you have to ride in a contest with a few thousand people in the stands and your opponent is called
Gary Young. This would make me nervous, but it looks like
Bruno Hoffmann doesn't have that problem. It's unbelievable how much skills the German has and he pulled pretty much everything he tried once again. His style leans more towards street riding where Gary uses the entire course at full speed with original lines. This could have easily been the final of the event but someone had to leave the comp and it was Gary. Score: 88.83 for Bruno and a 87.83 for Gary.
The heats in round two were getting more spectacular by the minute.
Alex Coleborn vs Michael Beran. Two trick maniacs, let's bring it on. The RIDE UK coverboy (Alex) managed to pull some sweet tech tricks and barrell roll whips over the box for a score of 89.67. Czech rider Beran showed another 3-invert over the box and went for the triples to get a highest score of 88.67. Another close battle but Alex made it through to the final round.
Dean Cueson against
Mark Webb. Again a close battle because Dean has been riding hard lately and it shows. But Mark Webb is Mark Webb. He's got his own riding facility now so he can stay fit, even during the wintertime. He beat Dean with the following score: 89.67 vs 88.33 on both riders' best runs.
At the Telekom Extreme Playgrounds there is room for one "Lucky Loser" who makes it in the second round by SMS voting. People in the crowd can vote one rider back in from all the riders who got out in the first round.
Mattis Hansen had enough fans to get voted back in but when you line up against
Maddog, you know your changes are slim before you drop in. Although Mattis showed some surprising tricks (I'd never seen him ride before) the difference with Brett were 10 points.
Finals:2 runs each for the 4 finalists. Cameras were rolling (it was live on MTV in Germany) when
Hoffmann, Webb, Coleborn and
Banasiewicz got to work for the big checks. Maddog wasted no time and left the other three with the number 2 spot battle. The 15 year old DK rider rode awesome and pulled a lot of his tricks out of his hat. The frontie over the spine (
Dhers-style) was a good way to finish it off. I'm sure you've seen the clips already.
Bruno Hoffmann once again made the podium with a score in the 90-s. it is hard to describe how good he is. 540 over the jump box, 720 on the quarter, backwards manual moves over the hip until he stops spinning, toothpick hangover grind to 360 out, insane. The difference in points between Total Bike Co riders
Mark Webb and
Alex Coleborn was smaller than the difference on the check. 89.83 for Alex and 89.67 for Mark. But they celebrated the night away together and Alex received a nice neck tattoo from Webby himself.
