X Games Austin 2014 Day One News and Results – Bestwick Claims Ninth Consecutive BMX Vert Medal

X Games celebrated a 20 year legacy by kicking off its first year in the Lone Star state with an action packed BMX and Skateboard Vert Finals set against the stunning backdrop of the Texas State Capitol in Austin. On the first day of the inaugural X Games Austin, fans invaded downtown to watched world-class athletes battle it out on the 60-foot-wide Vert ramp.As the sun set over the huge crowd, all eyes turned to eventual silver medalist Simon Tabron who rode brakeless and landed several 540 variations placing him in medal contention from the beginning. Simon Tabron: “I am thrilled that X Games has decided to put the Vert ramp at the Capitol in Texas and has given me a chance to win silver in such a strong BMX community.”
But despite all riders’ best efforts, Jamie Bestwick maintained his X Games BMX Vert domination and sealed his ninth consecutive gold on his first run, scoring 92.66 and performing an impressive front flip flair. Jamie Bestwick: “I can’t think of a better way to start the X Games party than winning a gold medal tonight.”

Say all you want, but the the X-Games have helped bring action sports to the main stream. If there's one BMX contest that the general public has heard about, it's the X-Games and this week it's happening again. Austin, Texas is the location and it's hot and windy over there right now. But the show must go on and last night the vert riders kicked off the comp. Two Brits by the names of Jamie Bestwick (1st) and Simon Tabron (2nd) were accompanied by another 40+ rider named DMC on the vert podium in 2014. Enjoy some pics here:
