Connor Fields (Henderson, Nev./Chase BMX) won the overall title as the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup wrapped up at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista on Saturday night. Olympic champion
Mariana Pajon of Colombia took the women's overall win while American
Arielle Martin (East Spanaway, Wash./Intense BMX) was second overall.
Elite Men: After taking the win in Friday's time trial Superfinal, Fields placed third in the Supercross final on Saturday. The 21-year-old won his quarterfinal and semifinal to make it into the eight-man main which also included
Sam Willougby (AUS),
Tory Nyhaug (CAN),
Twan Van Gendt (NED),
Liam Phillips (GBR), and fellow Americans
David Herman (Wheat Ridge, Colo./Free Agent Bikes),
Barry Nobles (Sun City, Calif./DK Bicycles), and
Corben Sharrah (Tucson, Ariz./Redbull).
Fields led the race until turn two when he was taken over by Olympic silver medalist
Willoughby and
Nyhaug who placed first and second.
