It's time for the final round on the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup Tour where the overall Supercross champions for 2018 will be crowned in Santiago del Estero, Argentina.
Round 7 of the UCI BMX SX World Cup took place in SDE and brought close racing to the track with the best crowd in BMX Racing. Local hero Gonzalo Molina just missed out on a victory in a final that must have had the closest finish between riders ever. Within 0.65 of a second all 8 riders crossed the finish line. Holland's Laura Smulders stayed on the bike all day and turned it up a bit in the final enough to grab her first win in Santiago del Estero. More racing on Sunday as the World Cup season concludes in SDE with final round 8.

The HARO Blackout XL is Haro's top of the line complete bike made for serious BMX Racing. The only upgrade after this would be a Haro Citizen Carbon frame but there's no complete bike available from Haro that features the carbon frame. That Blackout though. It's not the cheapest complete bike out there but the parts it comes with explains why. The CLiQ Citizen carbon fork up front is light and strong and shows minimal flex. Combined with the a tapered head tube, 3D dropouts and the Blackout PTC (Power Transfer Center), the Blackout frame is serious about transforming your power into straight speed. Out of the gate the CLiQ Weaponz 2 piece cranks mounted to the sealed bearing CLiQ BB86 press fit bottom bracket doesn't let you skip a beat. We see top racers ride this machine and for good reason. The bike does not come with pedals which is a miss, but knowing most racers use their own type of Clipless pedals why would you pay for something you are not going to use anyway?

Being in the top 10 in the UCI World Cup Ranking, what's your goal for the last two rounds in SDE?
Romain Mahieu: We are pretty tight in points with Twan, so the goal will be to keep that 4th place in the ranking. Which means being in the mains and doing my best to get a podium.
Is the Olympic qualifying period on your mind when you're doing races after 1 September?
Romain Mahieu: Well, of course we all think about it now. But it doesn’t really change anything for me. I’m just gonna go to every race the same way I was going earlier this year.
What's the best section on the track in Santiago del Estero?
Romain Mahieu: I like the pro set. There is nothing big but you have to be clean and smooth.
How long is your travel from home to Rounds 7&8 in Argentina?
Romain Mahieu: Hm, very long... I don’t really know exactly haha. I’d say more than 20 hours!
What is your best result on that SDE track up until now?
