The NBL/UCI Elite Series, which ran parallel to the UCI North American Continental Series, came to a close at the NBL Stars N’ Stripes National in South Park and Formula’s Donny Robinson and Fly/Supercross’s Krystal Hime have won their respective Elite Men and Elite Women’s titles. In keeping with the tradition of offering the most lucrative level of Elite racing in the country, the NBL added the program as a ‘series within a series’ to further promote the UCI North American Continental races, paying out more than $13,000 in purses and $10,000 in year-end awards.
Friday, 21 July 2006 New for 2006, BMX Big Air is coming to X Games 12, see it LIVE only Pay Per View Mat Hoffman pioneered the big ramp era when he built the first big quarterpipe in the spring of 1992. He went 23’ above a 21’ tall quarter pipe, more than doubling any previous highest air. In the spring of 2001 he set a new record high air at 26.5 feet and is officially recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the “Highest BMX Vert Air”. In Dec. 21, 2000, Colin Winkelman sets World record longest BMX jump record at 116 ft. Put these two ramps together and you have the Mega Ramp and BMX Big Air.
The first Canadian Concrete BMX jam went amazing, even in 33 degree+ heat, and no shade to be found! riding was definitely high caliber, with the ams doing flairs and gigantic brakeless transfers and airs (10 feet no brakes! damn!). The Dave Vanderspek "vanderoll" tee was well received, as it was given out to every entrant. Dave started the jam series format in the 80's apparently.
On Saturday 9 September 2006 the Flatland elite will be in paris for the FlatRing contest. With riders on the program such as Viki Gomez, Alex Jumelin, Martti Kuoppa, Bram Verhallen, Terry Adams, Michael Steingraeber, Frank Lukas, York Uno, Matt Wilhelm and a whole bunch more, there is only one spot where you need to be on the second September Saturday. The Cirque d'Hiver, located in the heart of Paris, will host the contest and the riders will battle for 10.000 Euros in prize money. The info lists that this will be the first BMX event in Paris since ten years but I'm sure others will argue that. Needless to say, book your trip to Paris and bring your lady too for some late night romance along the Seine.
Dude, what's going on? Did you see what they're planning to build for the X-Games vert contest? Do you think the chest plates are going to make a return to the pro class? Well, with handrails on the vert ramp you would think that the rider can use any sort of protection possible. Does someone really needs to get seriously hurt before they realize that this is nuts? Or is it a form of progression? Is it going to set the boys and the girls apart on the vert ramp? We don't think there are any X-games vert riders that are pussies but you really need big balls to attack this beast. Anyway, we've posted a new poll in the right column so you can show what you think. It's possible to click more answers.
After much deliberation and many excellent entries that made the decision process extremely difficult, Nike 6.0 has chosen their Media Apprentice. Ben Green, 19, from Surrey deservedly won the comp after entering with two amazing examples of his work. The first showed his skills as a BMX videographer with well thought out cinematography and interesting choices of locations. His second is a hilarious, brilliantly edited, story of a BMX business man’s journey to work!
The countdown runs: Only 4 days until the Suzuki BMXMasters 2006 starts. Here are the latest news.
