With Grands right around the corner, many are gearing up for one last solid effort to put their team at the top of the standings. Last year Dan's Competition ran away with the win for the National Team and likewise for HBR in Team NBL, but can they do it again? After the results from the Keystone National in Pottstown, Dan's continues to lead the chase but Felt/Extreme Sports/HBR will have a shot at the title if things go their way at the Grands. HBR is sitting behind the powerful RADD Racing team and the two will go head-to-head in Louisville.

NEW YORK - August 28, 2007 - The AST Dew Tour, the world’s premier season-long action sports tour, today announced the winner of the PlayStation® Trick of the Week Award from the Vans® Invitational. Voting began on Monday, August 20, the day after competitions ended. Fans were able to view video clips and vote online at astdewtour.com until Monday, August 27.

Fans selected Mike Spinner as the PlayStation® Trick of the Week winner after he performed a 1080 in competition during the BMX Park Finals. Spinner finished in first place in the finals.

“I’m so psyched! This is one of my dream tricks,” said Spinner. “Not only did I get to pull it during my Dew Tour run, but it helped me win the Vans Invitational and the PlayStation Trick of the Week. I couldn’t be more excited."

Spinner faced stiff competition for the PlayStation® Trick of the Week Award. Other Trick of the Week nominees included: 

100 pages of BMX form issue number 137 of RIDEBMX. It's got the high quality photos as you have come to expect and a whole lot of new ads that are usually good to look at too. Mirraco's Dave Rytell whips some train tracks in San Fran, Allan Cooke does a rail to rail for a DC ad, Jimmy Levan goes crooked on a big rail in an Odyssey spread, Sergio Layos gets the etnies ad with a downside whip, Colin MacKay barspins over a fence (Haro) and Gary Young does a ridiculous ditch wall ride for a new Vans advertisement. The ads are making the mag better. Rob Wise scores his third full page with the same picture. It was featured in a French magazine, a German mag and now in RIDEBMX. Kosman shot it.

For Jarrod's interview I gave him a few key words and he elaborated on them. We had about 2 hours to shoot some photos so we were limited to one spot : the Fun Spot. The photo taking process was hindered for a few minutes by an obtuse Santa Cruzian asking me odd questions about cameras. He easily could have been the grandkid of the Zodiac killer. The park itself is right next to the beach so the weather was really warm and there is always interesting foot traffic going past. Afterwards Jarrod went home to pack for the European tour he was about to go on with musician Jason Mraz and I headed to the airport to pick up a friend. About 2 months later here is Jarrod's interview.

The National Bicycle League is ready to host the 30th running of the NBL Grand National and the stage is set for a thrilling end to the 2007 season. The NBL Elite series classes will race their way into the history books on Saturday afternoon during the Elite Spectacular and the NBL will present more than $40,000 in purses. The ‘pumped-up’ show starts at 5pm on Saturday afternoon with special music, intense racing, the Intense ‘Build-A-Bike’ contest, and the BAWLS BMX Blowout presentations. Be sure to stop by the NBL booth to pick up an NBL Elite Series Autograph Poster and get it signed by your favorite pros. 

A lot of good ideas come from hanging out at the bar with a bunch of friends. You joke around, talk shit and all of a sudden you've got a new idea for a funny T-shirt or something else that no other BMX company has ever done. The next step is remembering the idea in the morning. If it's still a good idea when you wake up, you can make it happen. The people at Parano Garage in Germany decided to make beer coasters, checked into the costs, made sure there are no recognizable faces on the photos and simply had them made. They've got thousands of them so don't be surprised to find them in the bar at the next BMX contest.

A total of $ 12.500,= USD were up for grabs at the miniramp contest in Germany last weekend. It wasn't easy to get to the top three because it was a head to head system and if you messed up in one of your runs, you pretty much knew you had a hard time making it through to the next round. The set up at the wakeboard facility was pretty cool. Beach sand and plants together with some sunshine mad it a good place to be at. 

If you're waching the miniramp contest live you jus saw these four guys transfer to the next: Ben Hennon, Mike Spinner, Phil Aller and Ben Wallace. The level bar has been raised and there are no easy rounds any more. Markus Braumann rode well but Phil had a next to perfect one minute run and made it through. Mike Spinner beat tech master Dave Osato who tried a few big tricks (720 - whip to 270 toothpick) during his run but needed more than a few tries to pull it. Ben Hennon went through because Tobias Wicke sat out his run. He's injured and hurting giving Ben Hennon an easy transfer. Mark "120 SMS" Koenig could not match Ben Wallace's non stop trickery on the grey mini. Ben had a few extra's for the crowd and flipped the spine and did three flairs back to back.

The bands have started playing but more and more people are checking out the BMX riding on the ramp. Semi finals are coming up. Stay tuned for a report or watch everything live on www.freecaster.tv
