The first round of the vert comp took place at the Velodrom in Berlin today. The Pete King vert ramp that was brought over is 12 meters wide which works for some (Jay Eggleston) while others have to watch their carving on a ramp like this. There was actually a decent sized crowd today at the Extreme Playgrounds comp and with the bands that are added tomorrow (The Offspring as headliner), the place is most likely going to be packed. Some of the riders are not going to be back on the vert ramp tomorrow though.

Round one of the T-Mobile Extreme Playgrounds is done. A few battles were very close and one ended up in a tie. The ramps received some branding overnight which made the course look a bit different when the day started. Because the ramps are used for skateboarding and BMX there is a bit of a mix between transitioned ramps and flatbanks. It's not a "back and forth" course so there is room to find some lines. Darden, Dhers, Guettler, Barbero, Webb, Bommel, and Hoffmann made it to the next round. 

Last night T-mobile took the riders to their store for a little party. At the same time the rider brackets were made for the head to head contest that starts today. Half of the riders were asked to come forward to pick a name out of the hat. It made for some interesting brackets for both vert and street right from the start. Ben Wallace vs. Ryan Guettler for instance is one to be watched. Bruno Hoffmann picked Ben Hennon, Mark Webb is riding against Michael Beran, Dhers meets Mark Koenig, Bommel vs Michi Sieren, Rob Darden against Kevin Liehn and Alessandro Barbero

GT Bicycles, Redline and Intense are the big winners of the 2008 Golden Crank Awards,  a prestigious award with a lot of BMX racing history.

The 2009 Trinity forks have a new built in headset race on the steerer tube. To save some weight they've got bigger vent holes than the 2008 version and they've got a slight curve in leg for better peg fit. You can choose between a 10mm and 14mm axle slot. The forks have a small laser cut tear hole in the dropouts and they're rust proff coated before they were painted. They received full UV1 heat treatment and
