The Supercross party moved to Santiago Del Estero Argentina for the fifth round of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup series. Always a favourite with the competitors, the grandstands were overflowing and the huge and vocal crowd lent a very party like atmosphere to the event! This year the track had a few upgrades and was even faster and more flowing than previous years.
Under perfect weather conditions, it came down to the riders
Olympic hopeful Anthony Dean produced a brilliant performance to grab second this morning in the fourth round of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup in Santiago Del Estero. The riders turned it on in front of a raucous South American crowd, which only helped to enhance the drama and spectacle on a day of absorbing racing in what is the only World Cup event held in the southern hemisphere.
In the elite men, Dean, who finished runner up in the season standings last year grabbed his first podium of the year behind Great Britain’s Liam Phillips, who secured his third win of an increasingly dominant season.
Dean produced a competitive all important start in the final, but Phillips was better, and from there the race was all but won and done, Dean unable to rein him in. Although excited to be back on a World Cup podium, the South Australian said that it won’t change his mindset to much moving forward.

Aussie BMX sensation Caroline Buchanan has made a real statement of intent after finishing second in the time trial at UCI BMX Supercross World Cup in Santiago del Estero, Argentina while Bodi Turner also got in on the action to finish third. Under perfect weather conditions, it came down to the riders themselves to perform at their best in front of a raucous crowd, all while coming to grips with a track that has seen changes to the second and third straight.
It was a return to form for Buchanan after a disappointing result at the previous round in Sweden, with the result setting up a mouth watering clash with crowd favourite and reigning Olympic champion Mariana Pajon, after the Columbian got the better of Buchanan by .43 seconds. Lauren Reynolds was also in action, holding the quickest time for a brief moment before eventually finishing in seventh.
Buchanan praised the changes made to the track, and highlighted the fantastic role the crowd had played throughout the day.
Round four of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup brought BMX's best riders together in Argentina. On Saturday the only Time Trials superfinals of the southern hemisphere were on the schedule and the crowd came to see who put on the fastest laps in Santiago Del Estero. 2015 UCI BMX Time Trials World Champion Mariana Pajon (COL) and American time trials specialist Connor Fields set the fastest times giving them first gate pick in tomorrow's World Cup racing.
At the impressive sports complex just outside the city centre, the Supercross track was well prepared and smooth as butter. With the grass cut, the asphalt turns swept and the grandstands filled up with the best crowd on the World Cup circuit, it was time for some qualifying racing and the Time Trials Superfinals. Under perfect weather conditions, for a change, it came down to the riders themselves to perform at their best on the track that saw some changes since previous years on the second and third straight. Especially the third straight became tricky with steeper take-offs and deeper sections in between the jumps.
