Just before the start of the BMX season, Twan van Gendt suffered a serious hand injury. The current world champion BMX dislocated a bone in his hand during strength training, causing damage to a number of nerves in his hand. Van Gendt is expected to be out of contention for eight to twelve weeks. "A huge setback," said the 27-year-old from Brabant. "I am currently in excellent form, and was ready for the first World Cup races. That this happens during the final strength training in the preparation is worthless. "
"It will be a race against the clock to get fit again on time and to qualify for the Olympic Games. But if I am motivated by something, then it is "making the impossible possible. All focus is now on the process to recover and get fit again. "
In 2018, Van Gendt made the switch from the national team to Team Oegema TVE. He surprised everyone by winning gold at the BMX 2019 World Cup in Zolder, Belgium. After participating in the Olympic Games in London (2012) and Rio (2016), the BMX rider now goes for a title in Tokyo. Twan is currently 2nd in the internal ranking of the Netherlands. The 3 best ranked riders per country count towards the country ranking and the best 2 countries of that ranking place 3 riders for Tokyo. The Netherlands is currently 1st, but misses 1 river to score points due to Twan's injury. France is the biggest competitor, however, also has 1 injured athlete so that the difference will not increase very quickly.
The new UCI BMX SX World Cup season is about to kick off in Australia. With races on the program in Shepparton and Bathurst the first two weekends of February, it's going to be interesting to see who are on top. The Olympics are happening this summer and with 24 spots available in both Men and Women, it is key to get as many points in before the Olympic qualification period ends on 1 June 2020. All UCI BMX SX World Cups and the 2020 UCI BMX race World Championships in Houston will happen before 1 June making the first 5 months a hectic period for any racer chasing the Olympic dream.
The first two highest ranked nations will get to send 3 athletes to Tokyo. Nations ranked on spot 3-5 will get to send 2 racers and countries in top 6-11 will get to send 1. It gets complicated for the last spots to be filled in but the time has come that all points gained in the upcoming qualifying races are important.
BOX ONE STEALTH EXPERT BMX 451MM WHEELSETS. The Box One™ Stealth Expert BMX Wheelset is a top of the line BMX race wheelset out of the box. Featuring Stealth Expert Hubs, Box One Expert Spokes, and Box One Alloy Hoops, this wheelset is built to perform!
The Box One™ Stealth Expert BMX Wheelset is a top of the line race wheelset out of the box. Featuring Stealth Expert Hubs, Box One Expert Spokes, and Box One Alloy Hoops, this wheelset is built to perform! Box One™ Alloy Hoops have a no-nonsense low-profile design that eliminates excess material, making them some of the lightest weight double-wall rims available. By employing single eyelets to help prevent spoke pull-through, higher spoke tensions are possible.
The Box One™ Expert Spokes are made with heavily double-butted 14 gauge material (2.0/1.5/2.0mm) and are both lighter AND stronger than traditional straight 15 gauge spokes. This is made possible by using a spoke that is 14 gauge at the ends but slims down to 17 gauge in the middle -- this hourglass silhouette makes for an exceptional strength to weight ratio. Additionally included are Lightweight Black Anodized Aluminum Nipples to further reduce rotational weight.
