It took 9 months and 9 days extra for Boyd de Jong to see this world. Paul de Jong and Carry van Cuyck are now the proud parents of Boyd. Boyd was born today at 12:45pm and weighed in at a little over 9 pounds. Both baby and mother are doing well. If your Paul's Boutique order isn't shipped the same day this week, you know why.
We're proud on the expansion of the De Jong family.
Padded Cell's fourth birthday jam is happening in Feb at Rampworx, UK. A bunch of riding, a crazy heavy bike bunny hop contest (on 50 lbs. bike!) and the World premiere of the Padded Cell road trip DVD (edited by Joe Cox).
Madison, Wis. – Jan., 2007 – Mongoose dirt and street rider Cam White is putting together the mother of all Freestyle BMX Jams on February 3, and the event’s proceeds all go to Support Kids with Cancer charity. The Jam starts at 4 p.m. on February 3 in Wamboin, Australia – 20 minutes from Canberra, Australia’s capital city. All proceeds made from the Hillside Jam’s BBQ and bike auction will be donated to Camp Quality, a charity to benefit children with cancer.
“I’ve been wanting to put together a big jam like this for a long time,” said White. “It’s been a big job, coordinating with the city, bringing in the dirt and the tools -- basically creating this thing from scratch. But it’s going to be a lot of fun and it will help kids that really need help.”
The BMX element consists of massive downhill jumps, fun lines and transfers built from 30 tons of dirt and a big deck roll-in. Think Red Bull’s Whistler contest but better.

Ten years of BMX freestyle domination. From when to when was that? DMC: From my rookie pro year in '86 through the end of 1995. The last year there was an overall title.
If there would be a BMX Hall of Fame, you would be the first person on the wall. Do you care about something like that? DMC: Thanks for the compliment. History is important and should be remembered, but it can also be easily manipulated, so I try to place more emphasis on the present. Irving Feffer summed it up best when he said:
Name: Zachary Alexander Yankush aka Catfish Age: 31 Hometown: Youngstown, Ohio currently doing time in Dayton, Ohio
Did you grow up in Ohio? How was that? Zack: Yeah....I grew up here. It's not as bad as it's made out to be although the winters are horrible. I had a pretty good crew of ride to look up to when I first started riding in addition to having a semi-local bike shop that would put on contests. Ohio rules. Lots of fat girls though.
What did you want to be when you were growing up? Zack: For the longest time I wanted to be a lawyer..just because I had a lawyer friend growing up and he was PAID!
When we posted the article about BMX in The Netherlands from 1956, we expected the forums to go nuts. Not that we hang out at these places much but showing a photo of Dutch kids riding bikes with numberplates on a dirt track in 1956 certainly was a good catch. We received two (American) reactions on the post, one from JT, the other from TGI Byron Friday. Both were stoked on it. We have now decided to make an ad of it showing that Joe Kid on his Stingray has got nothing against Ton van Heugen on his Gazelle.
